Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • My car only made 200kw and at peak power made about 350nm. It appears this car made 220kw with similar torque at 220.

I thought torque was relative to power and rpm. How come this car makes 20kw more? Can anyone explain this to me? Mine was dyno dynamics, could thIs be the difference?

Maybe I am mis reading this dyno graph.

          Torque was 437Nm...

My results were obtained on the Dyno Day on Sunday where there were atleast 50 other cars that were tested back to back...

          • Just had a closer look and your torque was ~10nm more so maybe this explains it.

I struggled to read the mainline dyno.

            Good result Goran.

            • Wow great results. I just ordered a Golf R and will arrive in Sept. Thought I would not mod the car but the results are very good. I have an 03 wrx with a TXS full exhaust and def recommend the brand! My wrx made 161.9kw at all four with the full system, intake and some silicon piping and the thing flies, can only imagine what the Rs would feel like with over 200kw!

Grab the dump and then select a tune from a provider of your own choosing, I believe most now support the bellmouth style dumps now so you have quite a few options. If you need to add you own wideband analyser or EGT probe order the dump with the additional bung.

PS 200+ kW atw is certainly fine number and the internals in these engines can take it all day. A mild bit of tuning will get you this.

                  • Hey Mark,

Why is the speed at your peak power so low?

Goran's and myself was 150-160km/h, is this because yours is dsg? Or just different tunes/hardware?

                    • It will be because my run was in 3rd and your cars were run in 4th. I made them do couple of runs in different gears on my car to show the guys watching that properly setup it makes next to no measurable difference on the mainlines. The ramp rate of 7kmph/sec is very cruel it holds the car longer/limits the rate you accelerate through the ramp so heat soak/higher inlet temps would have more of an effect but in third gear this is not much of an issue. If you see a 4th gear run with 7kmph/sec then its a really solid test of how the cars coping in this case Gorans car has a slightly better sorted tune than my own but I knew this from running the car on our dyno Friday.
I have some work do on my own tune if time permits in fact its already been revised twice but it will be a long time before I get it back on the dyno due to workload atm. Really I don't think it is possible to get much better than this without changing the turbo you won't notice 5 kW here or there and the effort is not worthwhile

                      • Thread necro, Mark is still working his magic, my 2007 S3 was piped and tuned recently, despite being brought in with known issues, Mark assisted in diagnosing the fault (poor prior maintenance - non critical) and the S3 pulled some healthy torque, a little down on peak power due to the fuel pump exceeding 100 k kms.

Love the TurboXS sound on full throttle, very discrete in normal driving.

Mark used parts of his own car to help diagnose / disprove what was causing the issues on mine, I still have one of his loan coil packs, great service, support and very reasonable pricing considering the extra support and time he spent on mine.
