keep those resumes rolling in .
May be a job at Williams as they aint travelling too well this year.

Ha I remember 40 years ago I thought my beetle handled superbly but now I realise that it was just a case of not being capable of going very fast, like a mk1 diesel .

Invalid argument. Diesels may go slowly up hills, but down them they go just as fast as any petrol engined cars. Ergo they need to handle just as well...and they do! Gravity's a wonderful thing when it's on your side. Prejudice is a bad thing on our forum.

Good answer GTI20V its all just a bit of light hearted banter added to opinions on matters.
Gee I don't dislike diesels its just a bit of Aussie stirring.

rear beam mod is a great idea... best of both worlds... would it be possible to get some photos or description of the lengthened strut tower mod please? i also like this idea but im interested as to how you'd get em strong enough...

I used a couple of originals from a donor car. Simply cut the tops out of my towers and sleeved the new ones over. Mig welded to the inner guards and the original towers. I then added a brace back onto the firewall. When corner cutting in a rally once we hit a huge hole on the loaded side of the car. Felt terrible but the steering was straght, even though there were dents where the tower and brace hit the bonnet bracing and firewall. All was good with that mod,nil probs. I will get up to the block this weekend and take some pics. Mind you, as it is a competition car, not a show car, it isnt all that pretty. The white Golf I did, I bogged up a bit and painted. That looked almost factory. Cheers!

Exactly. The Diesel Mk1 was supposed to be equal in power output to the 1.1L petrol Mk1. I have driven lots of them and they go ok. Never use the brakes and change gear lots

As promised, some pics of Gunters strut tower mods. I also added braces back to the firewall. Added a third bolt to strut brace to stop the top pieces flexing/rocking on the tower.
It isn't pretty under there but it would be possible to fill and make look factory. Dead easy, and this car has taken a pounding! There are some pics in the members rides of Gunters current look. (not good)
