After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. Now sorted : See latest post.

    Hi all,

Hopefully this is the best place to put this cry for help.

Recently purchased new, a 2024 Cupra Leon V (140kW/320Nm) Spanish Golf. See Newbie thread here >> 1st time VW owner, well, Spanish Golf !

Car is great apart from not having the better brakes (same as Golf 'Performance Pack system), so got a set from a Golf R Mk7 and did the swap with new pads and rotors. Great.

Problem was, I inadvertently damaged the LH rear wheel speed sensor (sensor tip damaged - long story) and of course, a host of warning bells and whistles.
Finally got a replacement on Friday, and along with the Carista, tried to reset the multitude of fault codes with some inner hope being strong.

But, sadly, the result was far from good.

Some codes cleared and some wouldn't. Tried ignition off/on and clear codes (several times) and even fully disconnected battery for 10 minutes and tried again. Same response. Took it for a drive and repeated above steps and no change

Download from Carista here (maybe a reset of some sort is needed ?)

    Hi Michael,

Not sure what is going on, but can understand you are annoyed with the issues on a brand new car!

Sounds to me like one of the following scenarios:

    - Damage to another area of the wiring/plugs
    - Incompatible wiring/plugs/sensor due to the change in brake calipers and disks (possible that your wheel speed sensor is not compatible with the larger disks/calipers?)

Was this scan taken after reconnecting the battery, taking the car for a drive (making sure to turn steering wheel full left and full right to calibrate the steering angle sensor) ?? Im pretty sure a good amount of these errors should go away after a short drive.

Hi Lucas, Cheers for the reply.

I think, wiring damage is the most likely option, but hard to fathom where and how. Nothing was touched under the bonnet (apart from brake res top up). Maybe when changing the caliper ?

Wheel speed sensor - same one was put in. Got the part number from the part I broke and also from an EPC (7Zap - but can't get back into it ??) for the current model Formentor with the same brakes. Will have a closer look at the sensor and how it fits in and measures any input to see if that is a potential issue.

Didn't do the full left/right on the steering wheel, so will try that again. Prior to that, will have yet another look at each of the plugs and the wiring that I removed/reconnected to see if I can see anything. A pain without a hoist, but I'll manage.

The curious thing is I looked on the web at several sites showing the swap to the PP brakes on Golf's and assumed that it was essentially the same as basically it's the same chassis.

      Hmmmmm

A bit more digging, and I think I may have found a potential answer ....

Of the Golf Mk7 R donor parts, the only part that wasn't compatible was the rear dust shields. The VW ones could be slipped on over the rear hubs and held on with 3 bolts. The Cupra ones were mounted such that they are bolted on BEFORE the hub is fitted.
In order to get the bigger rotors to fit, I had to cut/mangle the original dust shields off, and I probably damaged the integrated sensor ring whilst doing so, not even knowing it was there

Seems like it's a solid possibility that I need new Rear L&R hubs - here Just a moment... or here 2006-2024 Volkswagen Hub & Bearing 5Q0-598-611 | OEM Parts Online

Likely part number 5Q0598611. On a large number of cars, so may be able to find a 2nd hand pair at a reasonable price.

Only reason I didn't taken them off properly, as I didn't have the tool to remove the hub nut. Too much of a rush.

If I was going down that route, I'd get the proper fitting rear dust shields too, as they are not expensive, but can't find the EPC that I did before, Grr

Something to investigate over the weekend !

Definitely could be the main issue.

            Hmm, more digging done and consulting with 7zap (Seat Parts catalog - ETKA Online, seat EUROPA, original Catalog seat EUROPA), the dust shields for the rear show this image ;

where the format of the dust shield is such that it clearly shows that it goes on before the stub.
The part numbers identified are 5Q0615611S/5Q0615612S (Left/Right).

Then a I find someone in Adelaide with a pair (from Audi RS3) clearly marked with these same numbers, the image are ones that slip over the stub axle ?

            – VDL Adelaide Spare Parts Store

The ones that I got from the Golf Mk 7 looked like these, but the 3 mounting bolt holes did not align !

Mega confused. Will contact the supplier (as local which is amazing) as may be able to get the stub axles as well.

Got the correct part number hubs from the local VW dealer, so ordered replacement hubs from Spareto in Lithuania for a grand total of $250 vs Genuine parts that would be $1,360.

The replacement ones from Spareto are SKF VKBA 3656. Could have got them from Run Auto, but their price was $340 delivered.

Honestly the Run Auto Parts price is decent in my opinion. You have to weigh up cost vs how long they will take to arrive. Whats the timeframe for Spareto?

                      Spareto were pretty quick.

Order placed Thu 29th Aug, 11:00am - received confirmation email within minutes
Shipping confirmation & DHL Tracking rec'd Fri 8:31pm
Left Lithuania DHL @ 9:03pm Fri, then Copenhagen, then Heathrow and left there Mon 4:48am
                      Scheduled delivery Wed 4th September
Item cost was Euro 45 ea, and Delivery Euro 53.

If the price difference was less than $50, I probably would have gone with Run Auto, so pretty happy so far.

OK. About to start the rear brake fix and hub swap, but once Carista is connected, there is no option to do the EPB Service ????

I’ve followed the Carista how to instructions on the web, but don’t even have the option listed in. The service tab !

So how do I do it ?
