Great thread Pete, tons of DIY, which is awesome to see you didn't just throw money at any issues but tackled them yourself. You seemed to be having constant niggling issues with the engine, is that just because you changed everything around, so I shouldn't expect this from a stock motor?
Can i suggest Pagid pads Peter, i have them on my rally car and they have excellent bite and longevity in extreme circumstances yet have almost nill squeal and the rotor wear is excellent.

Suggest away. The next event isn't till next year so I've got time to work it out.
Was considering PBR ceramic, or the QFM pads by GSL Rally sport around these parts. the Lucas / TRW pads were good too.
These Mintex ones I'm using at the moment seem to loose feel and they wear crazy fast.
I ran one pad right down to metal in the last outing, I might be up for discs too.
have you thought about doing the magna and camira brake upgrade? my brother has magna disks and camira caliper on the front of his LS passat wagon and they pull up great. just a suggestion.
Cheers. Tim
i'll source the part number of my pads for you pete, are you running mk1 Gti calips or mk2 256mm items? The Pagids got stomped on at high speeds around the track and on the tarmac rallies and never felt major fade, could smell em after 3 big long straights from 200 down to 40 in a row but i expect that.

Magna discs require a spacer ring and the calipers need some bushes turned up. For racing I prefer as close to OEM as possible and as little adaption as possible.
The current setup is 16v Scirocco calipers over EBC 256mm vented, slotted and dimpled discs. It will pull -1.1 Gs from 170km/hr but looses pedal feel during the day which doesn't come back until I replace the pads.
The loss of feel isn't fluid related, they've been bled every way possible and are bled between meets. Think it's time I tried a different brand of pads. Not sure about these Mintex things, the wisdom of the interwebs seems to concur with my experiences.
The other car will have a different setup, keep an eye on my other race car thread over thee next week or so.

Missed that sorry. The calipers are 16v Scirocco. Pagid number would be T5050? Any up spec products in the Pagid line up?
Just looking up numbers now for a trip to the brake shop tomorrow.
