Yeah, i'm running 7x15's.
Going AWD will obviously require grafting in the syncro golf floor tunnel and boot floor. Lots of work there.
I thought about that too but its major work, and probably easier to just find an actual syncro body to use (why build something you can buy blah blah).
You wont wanna push these engines beyond 300hp before strengthening rods, pistons, etc. I just put bigger injectors in and tweaked the Haltech up a bit.

At 280hp it spins wheels chucking back gears at 100kph on a dry road on road tyres, and even gingerly tiptoeing the throttle in the wet, its just like a dog on Lino!!

People keep egging me on to go for more power but why? First i need more grip.

no have not bought a cable or throttle cable yet, As soon as the engine bay is painted everything is ready for the motor to be fitted though. Nearly finished blocking the primer back but gonna need another coat on the sides and rear and then re blocking. Are you running standard hydraulic engine mounts or have you a solid one in he front? I was going to try run all g60 hydraulic and hope it doesnt have to much twist could even fit a top engine damper, I would rather not have the vibration that a solid mount would give but its all over the net that they are what people are using.

Just use any mk2 automatic speedo cable with the 02A.
I was using a homemade hybrid speedo cable (Corrado at one end and mk2 at the other), but then i realised the auto cable has the same fitting on the gearbox and obviously also fits the cluster without needing any modifying.
There are a few different lengths available though, so make sure you get the RHD version.

With the mounts, I put in the crappy GSF brand G60 ones initially, but they weren't nearly solid enough. The engine was rocking and bucking and the cam sprocket would bang against the brake master cyl!!

I put in the 'MX' spec Vibra Technics mounts. They are very firm and it makes the cabin pretty noisy, but its a necessary evil i'm afraid. The MX ones are designed for race cars, so just get their softer version and that should be a perfect compromise.

No need for top engine damper imo dude.

Most of my cabin noise comes from the deafening hum of the Bosch 044 fuel pump!!!

TORNADO RED AT LAST!!!!! , Will colour sand and buff and then start putting motor in first before doing other panels, have to clean shed up and fit everything back into car.

Yeah have made slow progress, just had our second little rugrat so time available is very very limited!

Have colour sanded the body, but I have tried buffing some parts and I can still the fine 1200 grit scratches. I sanded with 1200 then lightly by hand with 2000. Next I will try sanding with 1500, 2000. 2500 then finally 3000 and hopefully that should do it. Seriously contemplating taking the rest of the panels to the spray shop for them to do!

Have put the motor in and starting wiring in the standalone. Cannot really do much more with that until I get the rest of the panels painted and put back on, then all the wiring can be done. Had a hell of a time trying to find what all the wires were for, until I realised they have 2 wiring looms for the front, one for the headlights etc and one for the engine. The one for the engine I am missing and although my standalone will run it I still need it for the starter motor and the wiper motor. The CE1 style looms are hard to get here since our golfs were 90 spec with the CE2 fusebox, I will be able to get this from Germany though or the uk.

So yeah, plenty of work left to do!

Don't worry, by the time the kids are teenagers you'll have plenty of time to work on the car.

A few years ago when my twins were 2 I had the car jacked up and I was underneath on my back working on the exhaust. Suddenly there was a little voice next to me asking "what are you doing daddy" and then another voice on my other side asking "can we help".

Little buggers had no problem squeezing under the car unlike their fat dad so I gave them a spanner each and told them to make sure everything was tight.

They soon got out of the desire to help dad under the car.
