    Weird things.
80s electronic fuel injection. Enough said really.

    Digipants!

Tim changed from the original to this last one which was for an overseas model, worked okay until the internals fried. The one I put in most recently is from an Australian delivered gti so it had the best chance of working.

Hopefully I'll get a bit more time between component failures this time.

Aaaaand we're back. Washed top to bottom, inside all the sills, in the engine bay. Drove it home, running gooood.

Compression test on all cylinders came back perfect, would never know it had clocked up 280,000km. fresh gutfull of oil and a new oil filter, new spark plugs.

Smile on my face the whole drive home

Good to see it's back on the road again.
Hope we can get it back out to the SE-QLD events

Definitely... But with an RACQ membership this time though.

Engine note and power drop off still happening at about 5,000rpm

Still got no idea what it is? I know my rotor arm and dizzy cap need replacing, I bet that could cause issues at high RPM?

The noise change part is what has me confused, it goes from a loud angry engine note to a really quiet engine note like the flick of a switch... honda vtec witchcraft.

They don't make power at those revs mate. It's just the way they are. If that's your aim, then you need to let it breathe. A better exhaust manifold and a lumpier camshaft.

Yeah I've been looking at the piper 276 degree cam kit which should move powerband up to be usable to 7,000rpm but it's about $900 aud by the time you ship it to aus.

Got my local VW guy getting an estimate for me through his suppliers.

So this pipe that runs from the back of the engine bay in to the air box is a "warm air" pipe? I don't live in Antarctica, can this be blocked off??

The flap in the airbox would be closed anyway.

Change the manifold first. No point in having a lumpy cam if the exhaust is restricted.

Any idea on a reasonably priced unit available locally? Can get OBX extractors/headers out of the states for a couple of hundred +$80 shipping, welds in the sample photo look pretty average. 4-2-1 style header with the collectors reasonably far down should be better than a regular cast log.

Holy crap sticks, these have adjustable brake bias? Apparently lowering causes it go out of whack. Will have to check this over the weekend.

Had tons of lowered GTIs ( 8V, 16V and G60) in the UK and never, ever touched the bias valve and I encourage you to leave it alone too.

Those headers might look rough and be cheap but they'd struggle to be worse than the standard cast manifold I am sure.

Kablamo, white calliper using some spare heat proof paint I had. Looks alright, won't stay that way for long though.

16x8 with 205s way too wide?

0 offset I think, measured it up and looks like it should fit if push the tabs in and trim out the over fenders, possibly bring the suspension back up 10mm
