Forging is the term for shaping metal by using localized compressive forces. Cold forging is done at room temperature or near room temperature. Hot forging is done at a high temperature, which makes metal easier to shape and less likely to fracture. Warm forging is done at intermediate temperature between room temperature and hot forging temperatures. Forged parts can range in weight from less than a kilogram to 170 metric tons. Forged parts usually require further processing to achieve a finished part.
Basically you can make a denser part than with a casting process. Which makes the grain structure tighter, and therefore stronger.Last edited by Preen59; 03-08-2008, 03:11 AM.

I figured with all the other work i'm doing, i'd be crazy not to.
Any suggestions on a particular brand?
You can by them direct but the Euro is hardly a star performer at the moment
I may have missed it, but what have you done with the rods? Reason I ask is that they're perfectly good balanced up and not worth the expense of upgrading (although the Scat ones are now very cheap).

I've got CRS Chromoly H beam rods out of the states for it. Rated for 600HP, shot peened, stress relieved brass little ends honed for floating pins ARP 3/8 L19 bolts etc etc and they were 300 bucks landed at my door. It was cheaper to do that than to bring my old rods up to scratch.
Thanks for the advice.Last edited by Preen59; 03-08-2008, 05:47 PM.

OK.. this is what i've found so far to be the best prices for brands i trust..
Bildon Motorsport
Wössner 16v forged- US$549
Drag Performance (Ebay)
Custom JE 16v forged- US$600
Both come with rings, pins and clips..
I'm assuming Bildon will do wossner custom comp for me..
This Drag Performance mob will do any bore size any comp ratio in JE's for that price.. The only thing is that I don't know if the JE's price is for coated or uncoated.. And i haven't asked yet..

Wossner will make anything for you www.woessner-kolben.de/ and I would definitely run the correct pistons rather than decking the hell out of the block or head - meaning you have wrecked them for any future work, especially if you do a gasket and have to shave the head again!

Not sure whether to go with Woessner or JE yet, i'll email this bloke doing the JE's for a good price and see what he says about the coating.
