So whats the deal with fitting the garrett? Is the GT28R a direct bolt up or do you need adaptors and stuff??

Check out kirsten's page, All Things Scirocco and Turn Signals for the Mk 1
Go to "engine" then "turbo comparison pics " on the left side index. Then check the rest of the build out ( pretty sure I told you about her build page waaay back man ) Any more questions I can prob get her via e mail.

Some Backyard Fabrication - Skylines Australia
Wade go on here and you can see my build, me and my best mate Chris did it (good fabby). We used a Kinetic manifold with a external gate provision. Fits it nice and tight, there is a 1inch gap between the mani and the firewall. The issue is the DP and brake booster the downpipe needs to go 90 straight of the turbo and then avoid the Mk2 rear mount so its tight as ****, but it can be done.
So we used the following;
Kinetic motorsports ext gate mani for a t3
Kinetic Motorsport: VW TURBO MANIFOLDS
Disco pot with .63 rear housing.

After a week or two of homework, I've decided that the power gains are not really worth the money to go down the Disco Potato route.
Too many manifold/coolant line/oil line/charge pipe work to do and its all going to cost money as the Garrett is very different in shape to the K04 (for those who don't know).
There comes a point in a build where you have to say to yourself, "ok, I've got a quick car that runs well. Enough is enough otherwise it will go on and on and I'll be broke".
I've achieved everything i set out to with the engine so now it's time to focus on a couple of suspension goodies and then the body & interior.
So, its off to turbotech for a full rebuild of my spare K04 and that will be going in. I think the last engine mod I'll do is put on a nice performance harmonic balancer.-1990 Mk2 GTI 5-door with AMK 20vt (260hp @ wheels)

UPDATE:
Turbo woes escalate. The spare K04 i sent for rebuild has a cracked housing so I'm now trying to source a new one.
Looking at something from ECS if they have the right one, or maybe a genuine one thru work from Singapore...
The rattling from the front suspension also continues. I will be investing in an Eibach antiroll kit early next year so we'll see what i can diagnose then...-1990 Mk2 GTI 5-door with AMK 20vt (260hp @ wheels)

You probably have already checked this.. But in regards to the rattling in your suspension have you checked the CV joints? Mums car started doing the same thing just before it carked itself, (rattling really badly & sounded like the strut towers where going to crack completely off). I know for a fact it needed the CV joints being replaced amongst the other mechanical woes the poor thing had haha.. Just an idea. Excuss me if i'm incorrect though haha, still learning about the mechanics of cars.1976 VW Golf "Swallowtail" - Rallye Red (long term resto)
