yea. you send them the factory loom and they modify it for you and send it back with the kit. Its cool coz you can keep the mk2 ignition barrel and clocks

      Wade,

out of curiosity, 154KW (minimum!!) ultimately delivered just through the front hoops. What mods are you planning to ensure they all make it into fordward movement and not tyre smoke?

I rang up QPEng and spoke to Ben Leech.

If you give them all the VW part numbers they will code the ecu to suit and if you upgrade later, still using VW parts, they will send you a free update disk.

They can also sell you a loom from stock and just make that one suit your car.

...and whats wrong with tyre smoke??
Obviously a Quaife LSD will be added as soon as i can afford it! But I have many suspension upgrades planned to keep it as drivable as possible.
Anti-roll bars, poly bushes everywhere and a good Bilstein kit.
There are so many people overseas who've done this conversion to the mk2 and tuned up to 350bhp in some cases! They still drive those cars around public roads. There's things you can adjust suspension wise to avoid all the wheelspin (such as stiffening the rear end to prevent front 'lift off', which unloads the front wheels grip) but the real part of the car that can minimise tyre smoke is the part between the steering wheel and drivers seat!

              VR6 clutch??

Can anyone shed some light on whether or not a vr6 clutch will work with the 1.8T/02A combination??
the haynes book by Tim Stiles (of TSR Performance) says it wont, but Ben Leech from QPEng said it is the best one to use
Any help as i'm about to buy a sachs vr6 clutch...

Replied in the other thread, you need a 4cyl flywheel to go with that. G60/2E etc.

i assume you're using an ABF style 02A CDA.
It actually has a different clutch set up to the 2E, a bit larger from memory.

My setup came with a flywheel, but i got a LUK clutch from gsfcarparts in the UK for quite cheap. Shipping as usual is a killer, but you should get one landed for $200. See their range of Mk3 16v.

                    • Whoa so many codes Me no understande!??
From what Ben at QPEng says, only the 228mm 4 cyl 02A flywheel will work with the 1.8t/VR6 clutch/02A combo.
I have struck a deal with roccodingo and swapped some mk2 GTI bits for a 16v Corrado 02A box and 228mm flywheel.
Also bought the sachs VR6 clutch and g'box seals from sukebe! Its gonna be a VWWatercooled special!!
I spent $470 at work (Audi) on a brand new sump, cam belt tensioner and v-belt pulley this week.
Parts are gathering, and so is my excitement! The bits from the old S3 are slowly selling which is paying for most things so far...

                        • Which radiator?

Hey does anybody have a G60 radiator?
I have the fan and shroud but not the rad itself.
Maybe someone knows of similar or identical ones from other models?
I think the water outlet needs to be on the passenger side for easier fitment to the 1.8t...
                          Anyone know?

                          • I reckon the VR6 radiator is similar with the outlet on the passenger side. Is the S3 rad no good?

On another note, before you fit that engine do yourself a favour and change the water pump. Mine just went on the A3 and it's a chuffer to do. The plastic impeller has fallen apart.

                            • Most radiators can be inverted without problems. I've run both the Mk1 GTI and Scirocco 16v rads upside down so the outlets were on the other side

A Mk2 radiator will cool the engine just fine (unless you're keeping the a/c) anyway.

any idea how much that will set you back?

I'm thinking of one as my next mod (that and install the K04)
