I need a car i can use straight away (i.e running). This engine swap fiasco is something i've decided to take my time with now the buggered ol' GTI motor is no longer able to threaten me with a breakdown.
Not goin for the eBay car for three main reasons. One being that its 3 door and so my old GTI interior and side trim (which i love) wont fit coz it was 5 door. Not much sense having a 5 door parts car if i'm gonna restore a 3 door!!!
The second reason is that i personally prefer the look of the five door mk2. I dunno, the 3 door just looks a bit off to me. Something about the longer door and no little 5th window divider in the rear side glass makes the body styling look less 'balanced'. I feel the same way about the mk5 GTI's and E30 BMW's.
Third is the fact that i'd have to basically pay an extra $1500 more than the car's real value just to get it to Perth if I buy an interstater.
I'll wait for something to come up and find another toy in the meantime. Wont make any difference if its digi or k-jet as i'll be using the QPEng Plug 'n' Play conversion kit.
I just scored a job at the Audi dealership so getting parts will be so easy now!

If you can get a good parts source go for it.
Nah it wasnt the evo. the guy just put all new belts in it and its been modified a little bit giving the bigger output. He may have been talkin crap tho!! No adjustable wing but he had an aftermarket replica one there.
There's quite a few italian specialists around Perth actually and i've seen Integrale's fairly often about the place.
I'll do a bit more homework and see..

Try putting a "wanted" advert in the local papers.

I was trying to buy a car a few years back, scanned the classifieds for weeks to no avail, so i put a wanted advert in the paper and got 8 calls within 2 days, all from people who were thinking of selling, but hadnt got round to it yet.

Picked myself up a perfect 1980 2 door Escort RS2000, complete with full body fit etc.

By the time I'd finished with it, it had found itself a quaint little turbo etc etc, and 270KW of power

              I'm Back Baby, I'm Back!!

That's right you heard it here first. I have just bought myself a 5door 5speed 1991 mk2 GTI 8v in white. 200,000 k's, air con and pwr steering!
It will inherit some panels from my old mk2, the koni's, the RS001's, door cards and seats (i like the style more on my old car), and lastly the mighty 1.8T S3 lump.
Might even revert it back to the small bumpers. I dunno, i just reckon the big bumpers look goofy and flabby.
              Job's back on!

                            Update

Hey guys sorry for the long time since last post. I secured a set of BBS RS031's last week for $500 from Swan Tyre Service! They were on the manager's E30 BMW. As soon as he finds some other wheels i'll be able to put em on my car and lose the semi-lame cheviot 14x5.5's!! I've still got my two BBS RS 001's but i'll keep them and use them when two more pop up somewhere. The RS031's are 15x6.5 whereas the 001's are 15x7.
The old wreck will soon be towed up to GOLFWAGEN where it will be stripped, so if anyone needs any parts...

There's some pics of the old car, before and after damage!!
Check the broken wheel. It was a BMW BBS Euro spec 15x7 E30 M3 rim.

                                Luckily the RS001's were unharmed!!!
