The new shed!

Hey dudes and dudettes.

A few people expressed interest in my GLD thread about the shed I was building and I suggested I'd put a thread up when I started building it.

Well, i've started so here it is.

Basically this runs over the last couple of weeks of pulling the old one down (which was housing the GLD, haha) and then the shed dudes coming in to do the earth works and boxing for the slab.

This weekend, the plumber and I did the plumbing for the slab and today I dug the trench for the 3 phase power. All this stuff has to be done before the slab is poured. I won't be connecting 3 phase straight away (going to cost me 2k for that), but I'll run the wiring etc. Same goes for the toilet, shower, hand basin, wash basin. I'll do that when I can afford it, but putting the plumbing in now is a must. You'll notice a sunken section in the ground works for a hoist pad if you look closely, too.

Shed size is 14 long by 6 wide by 2.7 high with a 25 degree roof.

If you guys are still keen, i'll post updates here and there on the progress. The cool stuff will be when I start fitting it out and move my machines in, etc.

It's a Garage World shed. They use a stirrup type design, so they are super strong (you can lift a lot of weight from the frame with a good crane without additional structure).



I did consider putting it up myself, with the help of a couple of mates, but it's too big and I don't have the time. I'm better off paying someone else to do what they do, while I get paid to do what I do. For what it's worth, the whole deal was just over 23k including GST. It'll add more than that to the value of the property, so it's all good.

You'll be able to live in it when I'm done. Haha. A few people said I should live in the workshop and rent out the house.

Thumbs up for planning ahead with the plumbing and power. I hate it when they do a dodgy and try to fit things like that later.
You will have no problems fitting plenty of cars in there

Haha. I've got plenty of **** to move in there. I'll build a loft, too. Going to paint the floor before anything goes in there, though.


Slab was supposed to be poured yesterday.. Hasn't rained for weeks, but guess what? Yesterday it rained. They'll probably be pouring tomorrow, I'm hoping.

What product are you planning to seal the floor with? Are you thinking a fresh grind and then a 2 part apoxy?

We did that in a workshop when I was working for a guy in the Fujitsu series a few years ago. It was expensive and a huge PITA to do. He ended up getting some pro painters in and they did it with trowels.

I'll see. We use paving paint at Electrolux and it works quite good. Chips off when you drop a 5 tonne mould on it, but I don't think I'll be playing with anything that heavy.

Still need to acid etch and possibly give it a grind, though. I'll talk to the sperts and see what they reckon.

Good stuff. I can't wait to one day have my own place and build (albeit probably with the cheque book and not the hands) a shed exactly the way I want. Interested to see how this turns out for sure
