  • Mini Project: Save the Hooker... MK2 GTI 16v

My Cousin grabbed a Left Hand Drive MK2 16V GTI that was in Serious need of some love

    This thing is pretty cool

    260,000kms
    Digifizz Digital Dash
Left Hand Drive (how it should be imo)

From the Outside it looked OK.. and in need of a tidy up but scratching the Surface everything began to cave in..

I kinda talked him into getting it. and kicked my self a tad afterwards... not only it was riddled with problems. but i Promised to get it all mint again.. (he is fairly disappointed to say the least)

Things started to get super interesting When what was supposed to be an easy Wide Track conversion (mk3 front and rear subframes) we started hitting all the stumbling blocks after the engine was pulled out!

    - Big Rust Hole in the Drivers Door
    - Rust hole forming in the Rain Tray
    - Subframe had been welded to the Chassis as someone was to lazy to find the correct sized bolt.
    - Pedal Box was broken
    - Gearbox was naffed
    - Heatercore wasnt plumbed in
    - Headliner began to drop
    - Exhaust System butchered
    - Exhaust Headers Cracked
    - Seat Back release cables ****ed

So the mission is to fix all the above

and add in some nice new mod cons

    - Electric Windows
    - MK3 Front and Rear Subframes (5 Stud - Wide Track) all the stuff i was going to use for my MK2 project untill it changed direction to 4 Motion...
    - Power Steering Installation
    - 288mm Big brakes (MK4 Calipers Front & Rear)
    - Fix the headliner
    - REplace the sunroof Seal!
    - Fix the Rust ole's
    - Fix the Paint.
    - Super Sprint headers
    - and Pretty up and give the Engine a bit of a birthday!

The Poor thing has been loved but needed attention that not many people have the time and space for!

      Braking System Update

Attempting a Serpentine Belt Conversion to add the power steering System in

All the nice subframes etc that have been installed on the car...

Waiting on the LHD PAS Rack to arrive from Germany ..

Also throwing a MK3 O2A in to the mix as the 020 has a horrible shifting system I hate!

                      A little progress this evening..

Subframe with Brakes etc basically ready to be re-installed

All suspended and installed... (just need to replace one of the Captive Nuts on the LHS for the subframe rear bolt.. its stripped unfortunately!

Nice Super Sprint Headers all bolted up to the Block and the Rear Engine Mounting Point!
