I've really been slacking updating the thread, between a crap work roster and buying a new place and getting everything up to the missus standards, I didnt spend alot of time on it. I did however got the shed built and the only thing left to do is to kit it out(flooring ,shelves and work area). The car is going well, no engine issues, the gearbox and clutch is still holding up good. the tune is still a bit rough at startup but when it's warmed up it runs sweet. New management setup is on the cards tho. Low boost is currently set to 0.4 bar and High boost to 0.9 Bar. there's also a few bits and bobs i've changed but will update with pics when i'm back in Perth.

So watch this space, will be getting back into this soon.

    Cheers

          Hi Leigh,
I'm looking at putting a 20v turbo longditudenal into my mk1 cabriolet with an 020 box.
I live near rockingham. I was wondering if down the road you may be able to give me some tips to get my beast on the road...
Just one question for now. How did you go with engineering it with regards to the pits/licensing?

            Hi Mate,

I got a MK1 cabrio with the 1.8T conversion in it since 2 years.
Currently I am convert it to right hand drive, but i haven't spend time on it the last 3 months. Cause of the same issues as Leigh.
I do have a lot of pics from the engine conversion.
            cheers
            Dan

Col, its all on the cop shop website, but best bet is to have an Automotive engineer do the report on it then check out what needs to be done to get it to licensing status. ( Its what I have to do for the blue rocco and the Mk2 heading over even as a standard car )

              Get your vehicle examined
              Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

              Cheers,

                Hi grant,
Yeah, had a read of the regs. Basically take the highest factory hp engine for the car in question then add 20%. If the hp figure falls below this threshold then it's a much simpler process. I think the highest output for the mk1 was 110hp on the gti 1800? But there was the owtinnger 16v but can't find power figures for it. So based on the 1.8 @ 110hp plus 20% the figure to get under for a simple approval would be 132hp.
Unfortunately the engine I want has 150hp so it's gonna be a lot more hassle
The main thing I can gather is to make It look as the factory intended it to. No wires or fuel lines near the exhaust etc

Sorry for my late response fellas.

Col, Mine still road registered but engineering is not done yet. I spoke with Wade(golfballs) the other day and basically when you have it up and running take to a Engineer to have a look at. He'll tell you whats needed. The Main issue is Emissions, as it really difficult to get low emissions with this sort of conversion. Wade was talking about goin with a detune on E85 to get by this.

Pm ur details and make a turn over the weekend.

                    • Roadbend Jaguar in Welshpool will do a 5 gas analysis for you, then you may have to tune the management to meet emissions standards.

                          • Look forward to how u get on with great interest. I'm going to pick up an APU 20v turbo unit tomorrow. Very excited!! Been wanting to do a decent conversion for soooo long it's not funny. With regards to emissions, do the compliance laws go by the engine or the car date of manufacture?

                              The downpipe..

I also started mocking-up the intercooler piping. Just need to use 1 part of the original piping which got the little 6mm nozzle for the boost controller.

The intercooler will be mounted low to give sufficient space for the throttle body piping. I wanted to fit the dumpvalve before the throttle body but it's really tight in there so it's gonna go before the intercooler.

Also had to remove the original radiator fan shroud and fit a slim fan to clear a bit of space. The other issue i had was the fuel tank cause i need a gravity feed tank like the GTI one. I bought a 2nd hand Diesel one but decided not to use it as was just full of sludge and crap that didn't want to flush out so now i'm awaiting a new one from the US. All and all it's getting there tho.

                              Cheers

                              Hi ,
I am currently planning my agu conversion on my mk1 gls , I have a complete 2001 gti that is my daily driver but recently had a rear end altercation with a commodore ....... my rear his front , its twisted my car so the best thing to do is use it in my mk1 I guess any one need a red mk4 lol , anyway did you have to change the engine mounts on the chassis rails at all to fit this engine ? Or can you buy a straight bolt on kit ?

                              • You can buy a straight bolt in kit. Few places to find them. German eBay or crazy quips mk1 being two of them.
