can you just run a beefed up kombi box with an adaptor plate ?, you can make the box run the other direction when you rebuild it. short of that what about a g50 or g50+50 box out of a porsche like all the midengine sports cars ? you can make adaptors for anything pretty much
    cheers brenton

Hi brenton...m8 wouldnt waste time with a kombi box! A G50 a great box but weighs a tonnnnnne.I originally had a LBox with straight cuts albins, porsche 944 cvs, swayaway shalfs the works...light and good for 350+hps....this was all connected to a wrx motor with 300hps...

I really dont think we are on the same wavelength with this .

The bellhousing pattern on a VR6 gearbox is completely different due to the timing chain cover coming out on one side . An adapter plate would need to be thick enough to be able to be bolted on without hitting the timing chain cover . There is a reason why 02a and 02m gearboxes are completely different in the casing between the 02j and 02m 4 cylinder units .
Audi was never released with the VR6 engine apart from the TT which basically has the same box as an R32 . The only locally north south gearbox which has the unique bellhousing for the VR6 is the 5 cylinder b5.5 Passat , but they are auto only .

Next time you got a chance go look at a VR6 engine and the bellhousing of a VR6 gearbox and then compare it to almost any 4 cylinder VW/Audi and you will see what Im talking about

Yeah Mr bugracer, if hes built a spaceframe sand racer with a vr6 in it, an adaptor plate shouldnt be too difficult.

Gearbox bellhousing patterns may be similar anyway. T4 gearbox belhousing fits 5cyl engines like the audi has and also a vr6. Its not that big a stretch.

What about the 5 cylinder Audi A4 gearbox? Surely thats the same bellhousing as the Passat and so will fit the VR6?

What about the 6cyl A4s? Will one of those boxes bolt up to the vr6??

The Haldex system should be fine, it is reactive but you can make it offensive (Active) These systems run quite a bit of power through them especially with the S3's and I would imagine they would be locked up a lot of the time especially with a Haldex sports conversion which is quite common.

Are you running a 2.8 ECU or are you going aftermarket ? If aftermarket, and you are looking for constant lock on the rear diff, there is a solenoid valve that has very little electronics that could be bought for $ 400.00 but is only adjustable from underneath the car.

Otherwise as I mentioned, I am waiting for my contact to finish testing an adjustable haldex controller for in-cabin to work with the original ECU. Will let you know when I have some more information but essentially it sends tricks signals to lock up the diff as per the setting.

wouldn't constant rear wheel torque overhead the rear diff if it's only meant for part time use?

if you were going to completely modify the set up, wouldn't it be easier to hack into an audi quattro system?

according to some diagrams i looked at of hte audi v6's, they are normal config (wide angle) with separate heads and everyhting - suggesting they would be quite different.

                              audi non turbo?

can someone give me make model dates please? and also how strong are these boxes.

Iam thinkin maybe a G50 box from a Porsche could also be the way to go

Not sure about mating boxes to engines. But if you go the G50 you will need to get the box modified to run in true middy config (I believe it needs to be run upside down and if you want it to survive it needs oil line mods) = $$$ and only a real option if you need to put silly power through it IMO.

The passat and A6 longitudinal design 'should' just bolt up with flywheel, clutch and starter.
