Running consistently hard angles is just asking for trouble - much the same as stupidly lowered cars and their penchant for blowing CVs!!

I reckon VR6 / R32 block will probably bolt up to an Audi Gearbox.

I`d use an A4 non turbo FWD box.

The motor can sit right forward, the gearbox can stick back over the wheels a bit and the driveshafts will fit up.

I dont think the 4mo gbox will like what you are trying to do.

mmm thanks boys...wat if i then leave the front wheel drive free spin and just have the rear wheel drive connection do all the work?... can that work?

4 cylinder boxes dont just bolt up to 6 cylinder engines . The only box with that layout that would work would be one out of a v5 bora .

Now this post confuses me a little , you want to run a 24v vr6 with a box in front wheel drive mode and have it positioned in the back of a beetle ? You can just run the same gearbox , you dont need to hook the tailshaft up . Alternatively you can remove the transfer case and hook up a driveshaft where the transfer case is hooked up . The 25th anniversary Golf 4 gti was like that . The Haldex system isnt constant , but unlike the a4 set up it doesnt need the tailshaft hooked up to be able to drive the wheels

I`m saying he should run the engine longditudinally with an audi box but connected to the rear wheels not the front. Thus he can keep the engine in the middle of the car and not have crazy cv angles.

Did it occur to you that the bellhousing for a 6 and 4 cylinder are different ?
An east west bellhousing wont fit in north south gearbox , and the only n/s gearbox which had a VR6 type engine was the V5 Passat and they were all auto anyway

no need to be short - it did "occur" to me they may be different - but who knows unless you actually look. admittedly, i havnt - but it was a suggestion of an idea, not a problem solver.

it wouldnt surprise me in the slightest if they did cross over/fit eachother.... i mean, the earlier 4 cylinder audi/vw engines are compatible across the gearboxes they share.

as well as that, i'm positive that if it were me doing the engineering, i'd rather make an adaptor plate and use the right gearbox, than bodge a awd system to do 2wd.

you ought not jump to the conclusion that someone is an imbecile, just because you may know something that they dont.

Ok! first i cant get the motor back far enough to just run the front wheel drive due to the wat the chassis is built....2nd running the CVs at sharp angles will be a strane for breakage!
To run the rear wheel drive only wat do i need to do?

                      Thanks Aydan. Sensible comments there.

Yeah Mr bugracer, if hes built a spaceframe sand racer with a vr6 in it, an adaptor plate shouldnt be too difficult.

Gearbox bellhousing patterns may be similar anyway. T4 gearbox belhousing fits 5cyl engines like the audi has and also a vr6. Its not that big a stretch.

                          ok perhaps its still unclear

audi's run an north-south engine configuration, even with FWD. they use a transaxel gearbox, like an old beetle gearbox, but designed to drive the other way, ofcourse. this means you would be able to mount the engine north-south in the middle of your chassis, and the gearbox BEHIND it, and have everything work nicely.

you would probably require an adaptor plate between engine and gearbox to do this.

Boys i cant run the motor longditudinally....reasons is due to the way the rollcage and chassis design was done
The car orignally ran a subie motor and a Lbox (beetle with straight cuts and albins. quaife.

Everything is quiet clear wat you boys are explaining!...I no pics could help but i have a 6 speed box and 2.8 motor ,i have the allmotion 4wd set up

I want the gearbox to only operate the rear 2wd..?I dont need to operate the frnt wheel drive...

If somone can host some pics for me that would be great..this will show the car..PLEASE
