  • Hi everyone,

Just uploaded this to You Tube : http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=RA2yCwFAU_Q.

This was the very first testing we did on Australian soil only 2 weeks after the Polo arrived. Just turn up the volume and listen to the glorious sound of that n/a 2L Lehmann built motor.

Eli(who took the video) actually started filming because he thought we were just around the corner when he heard us approaching. This gives an excellent idea of what the spectators on a rally hear as we wind through the forest towards them.

    Cheers
    Marius

            • I have decided to enter the Amalgamated Glass Border Ranges Rally at Urbenville next weekend (Sat 27 Sept) as the last rally before the gearbox gets sent to France. It is just 155km from Brisbane and is run in the same region as next year's WRC(Kyogle). Rally starts at 13h45 and runs until approx 9h30 that night.

Only problem is Gerard is navigating for someone else on the same event . So I'm putting Eli into the hot seat - his first event ever and obviously very nervous especially after Gerard had told him how bad my driving is.

              • all the very best with it Marius. Hope it all goes well.
Eli Evans, is it??? If it is, then he should be able to give you some pointers, hopefully not on his off road antics!!!

                • Eli Houghton - he took the video that I posted on youtube as per above.
As I said this will be his 1st rally ever.

                  • Lovely little video there. Much too short though. Did you have some fun on the streets with the car while it was only painted in white. Could've scared the hell out of a lot of cars.

                    • VW Polo S2000 Claims First Podium in Australia

Team OZ2000 Rallyesport claimed its first podium position in Australia this weekend when we came second overall on the QRC Amalgamated Glass Borderranges Rally held out of Urbenville.

The car ran like clockwork and we won 6 out of 8 stages. We were extremely surprised to run comfortably at the pointy end of the field with this being only my third run in the Polo and Eli's first ever rally as navigator.

The roads were beautiful smooth shire roads(mostly) and I can only think that having rallied mostly "blind" events, this experience must have contributed to our success this weekend.

In fact we were leading the rally up to the 2nd last stage when the competitor in front of us(on a 21km stage at night) experienced problems with a throttle linkage which caused massive dust problems for us and we lost approx. 2 minutes on that stage in certain places slowing down to a snails pace.

We eventually finished only 6 seconds behind the winners Matt van Tuinen and Alan Stean in an ex Possum Bourne Motorsport GP N4 Subaru.

We ran on the same tyres that we did Rally Queensland with and only once swopped from front to rear. The only "issue" we had with the car was that after the first regroup, we had no odos working - so we ran the rest of the rally(which was all at night) truly "blind" - quite an interesting experience.

                      Cheers
                      Marius

                        • I know we have been very quiet for a long time but unfortunately life, business, the economy, etc sometimes just gets in the way.

This is just to let you know that the Polo is alive and well and if all things go to plan we will do the Repco Rally Australia World Championship in Kingscliff in September.

The gearbox sat on my workshop floor for about 3 months begging to be sent to France but I knew once it left, I will have to pay eventualy and as I said, the economy...

To cut a long story short. It is back and ready to be installed and I have also stripped the car and rebuilt the suspension, done some body repairs and given it a general clean up.

Gerard and I decided on Wednesday that come hell or high water we are going to do the WRC, even if we have to rob a bank somewhere ( which we probably will have to do).

The beast is still the only FIA homologated S2000 in Australia and one of only a handful of Australian owned rally cars that are eligible for the event. We will be part of the full WRC circus and not run in the tag-on National portion at the back of the rally.

Anybody out there who would love to be part of this prestigious event and maybe have a few spare dollars lying around for sponsorship/advertising, please feel free to contact me.

We hope to do the VW name proud and would most probably be the only VW in the entire event.

                          Will keep you posted.

                          Marius.

                            • The offficial website where you'll find all the details:

The rally is based in Kingscliffe Northern NSW and the bulk of the gravel stages will be run in the Murwillumbah and Kyogle area.

                              Hope you can make it!

                              • Hi Marius. Good to hear from you. I was thinking about going to this anyway, you've just given me a great reason to go for sure.

Only thing is, it's a long drive. I can get return flight for $255 but then need to pay for car hire. So money wise it will end up about the same. I have an uncle who lives in Beenleigh so I might drive up and just stay there the weekend, means extra days off though
