I think what is annoying Vettel more than anything is that he basically helped Webber (or was trying to) for the good of the team, but ended up being bitten by it and letting mark get the vitrory instead of himself in the end. But he really was a sourpuss on the podium, wasn't he.

I am a Schumi fan, but I was appaulled by what he did there. While he was doing it I kept having flashbacks to the last Topgear episode on Senna. The quote "he was absolutely ruthless and would put you in a position where you had to make the choice of whether you were going to crash into him or not... and if you backed out he knew that he could have you every time after than". That's basically what Schumi tried to do to Rubens in the build up to that near incident (Rubens was on teh radio complaining about it), but Rubens burned him - so it's Schumi that is copping the flack now, and deservedly so. If he is not punished I will be very shocked. Good on Rubens.

I had not intended watching the whole race as I thought it was going to be a simple procession after the first few laps. I was really disappointed when Webber lost a place at the start, but when he stayed out with teh safety car, I thought it was a stroke of genius. I am not sure why the commentators were so confused. In the build up to the race they had been commenting that it was not as hot as it normally was, and so the tyres would last longer, they knew the RBR had way more speed in clear air, and pulling Mark in with all the others would do nothing but retain his 3rd position. Anyway, I'm really glad it all worked out so well. Great race in the end.

Oh, one other observation - I was under the impression that Alonso was one of the least liked drivers on the grid coz he is so selfish and aggressive. Did you notice that when they parked the cars, Alonso was the first to congratulate Mark on his drive though, and Vettel was nowhere to be seen. I predict the tension in the RBR garage is worse than it's ever been now!

    • it did appear that vettel was trying to help Mark secure 2nd and got burned in the process, perhaps by some RBR strategists who werent up to speed with the 10 length safety car rule. I do feel a (very teeny) bit sorry for him, although Vettel did say in the interviews that he was just caught napping, wonder if he said that to protect RBR against possible fines for his actions. But glad to see Mark score a much needed win even if it was a bit gifted. he drove hard in the middle to earn it though.

Schumi really does need to be put out to pasture. he isnt racing well and is resorting to incredible tactics like that

I am not convinced of that. I do think it was a mistake for him to come back to F1 as a racer - if Merc wanted him to develop the car they should have had him as a tester rather. But given that he is racing, or trying anyway, he should be given at least 2 seasons. Button has already admitted that he preferred an understeering car and so the Merc is a handful for Schumi. Next years car will have more of his feedback built in and I reckon the car will be significantly better... and as a result I think he will do better and be more competitive. What he needs to accept for this year is that he can't compete and that he mustn't take out other drivers trying to compete - but we all know that Leopards don't change their spots, and Schumi won't change his behaviour.

That's because he did tried the same thing with Villeneuve in 97 too but that one didn't pay off for him. (couldn't help myself)

That was a great race by Mark that run after the safety car was amazing!

I was waiting for Vettel to spit it, be all sulky and have a tantrum and that's exactly what he did, while he was somewhat unlucky it was his fault for not keeping up. This year Vettel is really coming off as a real spoiled brat! don't like him at all any more.

I must say I was cheering on Rubens when he was chasing schumi and I'm pretty sure I woke up the house when the incident happened as I yelled at the tv. Once again Michael showed his true colours and is still struggling, goes to show the real champion was the Ferrari not him.

Partially true, but he did build that car around him. I hate his guts but no-one wins 7 titles just from having a good car.

He is a competitive beast and an utterly ruthless racer. But not a sportsman or a likeable character...

Exactly, the car isn't built around him so he is just as good as the rest of the field, he is a great driver but his form this year goes to show that he isn't the most amazing ever, n example of this is Senna in 92 and 93 that Mclaren was no where near as good as the Williams but he still managed to stick it up there with them and pulled off some amazing drives to beat them.

Don't get me wrong as I've said before he is a great driver, I just don't get all the blind Schumacher fanboyism that goes around.

              • Ive never been a huge Schuey fan, but always fully respected his capability.

I was glad to see him coming back to F1, but have to admit its been a bit of an anti-climax.

Will be interesting to see if he stays in F1,

It will also be interesting to judge if he needs time to regain some of his lost edge (given how little practice they are allowed these days) and if the car takes 12 months to develop around him and he is better next year

                • He has publicly apologised for his actions. Still shouldn't have done it in the first place though, and he only said sorry after widespread panning by the global F1 community.

Niki Lauda has also criticised Vettel's lack of maturity in his reacting to the drive thru.

I reckon Horner would've had a fair job of consoling Vettel, the spoilt brat.

Kinda back on topic...i hope Horner sticks to his who ever is leading the Drivers champsionship gets the preferential treatment at Red Bull. Should be interesting to see the team dynamics after the summer break with Red Bull & Ferrari.
