  • Wow, does Mark need to work on his starts or what?

There was a moment in the race when my hopes were lifted that RBR were playing team orders and favouring Mark by developing strange engine issues with Vettel, but man were they squashed when Vettel leap frogged the pack Mark was fighting in. How Hulkenburg didn't get a penalty - or even come under investigation from the stewards at a minimum - is beyond me. Cutting the corner, then changing his line twice!

The sprint to the championship is sure getting more and more interesting isn't it? Alonso's charge is worrying me a bit as he might just be able to reel Webber in at this rate.

    • not too worried about alonso as he has no engine swaps left so means at least one race he will be penalised alot of grid spots

      • Hamilton needs to work on his starts more! It's sort of Marks own fault for that finish, he waited thinking Hulkenburg would be penalised and ended up losing all those laps behind Hulkenburg. If he had just overtaken him he maybe could have gotten up and past Roseburg and perhaps even in front Vettel.

        • Redbull were almost writing these last 2 races off as ones they wouldn't perfrom well in. Hopefully they'll be back to dominating form from Singers onwards.

Have to agree though, woeful start again by Webber...he really could've pushed out a lead in the Drivers Championship after Hamilton crashed out on the 1st lap.

          Cheers,

          Jayse.

          • Vettel suffered brake, not engine problems.......according to Red Bull.

I call B/S - Red bull hobbled Vettel's engine momentarily so Webber could easily sail past.

Team orders disguised as a brake problem. I'm pretty sure Vettel has enough car feel to know if he has binding brakes or his engine has been detuned - he did not call over the radio that his brakes were binding. Binding brakes, in my opinion, rarely occur on an F1 car, and even more rarely do they fix themselves.

            Disgusted.

            • I dunno gerhard. Horner said Vettel bounced very aggressively over a curb which cased the brakes to bind. They thought it was engine related but wasn't till after the race they found the problem... apparently.

I think Webber is just playing it safe till singapore trying to keep his nose clean.

He did kinda faff about too long behind the hulk, but at least he's finishing his races with some points on a consistent basis which is more than Hamilton, Vettel, Button and Alonso have done this year.

I reckon Mark deserves the title as long as he can keep it together over the next couple of races.

              • As far as I know, F1 teams are forbidden to issue remote commands via telemetry to the car while it is out on track. So they couldn't have wound down vettel's engine for a bit. Wasn't aware of the brake issue myself so can't comment there.

Mark just needs to keep being consistent and finish and he will get very close to winning, if not taking the prize altogether. Good luck to him!!!

Monza looks like a fabulous track. I'd love to give it a whirl in a racing sim or IRL (i wish!!) sometime.

                • Wow what an awesome race!! It was tense from start to finish with so much going on!
Not much in that webber/hamilton incident, just racing the way it should be.

Driver of the race for me was Kubica. Just an awesome drive in those last few laps. He's going to be dangerous in a better car. Its a shame that renault isn't a bit quicker coz its looks tits!

Have to agree on all of that...great race! Glad race officials didn't ping Webber for the Hamilton incident.

                    • The Webber Hamilton incident was pretty much the same as the Vettel overtake on Webber, when everyone blamed Vettell. Can't believe he didn't DNF himself after that hefty shunt.

I cannot believe Red Bull pitted Vettell at the same time as Alonso, therefore guaranteeing he could only get 2nd. Every fibre of everyones being shouted let him do a couple of hot laps, since at that moment of the race he seemed to be quicker than Alonso.

But that would have let Vettel get more points up on Webber - I call really bizarre team orders to protect Webber's lead as far as possible.

                      • It would have been better for Webber if Vettel had of gotten in front of Alonso, seeing as Alonso is only 9 points off in the championship now. Also better for them in the constructors title, they certainly wouldn't have been trying to keep Vettel in 2nd.

Dude, seriously, how can you possibly see any similarity in the webber\hamilton crash and the one with vettel???!!!
Also, the pitstop situation as odd as it was really wouldn't have made much difference to webbers championship lead.

                          • Ferrari and Red Bull were reacting to McLarens strategy.

Kubica was good at the end, but remember, he had fresh tyres compared to the rest of them running many laps on their tyres. ie massa since the 2nd lap.

Webber was just plain lucky not to be taken out. Front susp. vs rear susp. is normally a fairly one sided battle.

                            • Christian Horner said one of webbers tires dislodged and would have lasted about another half mile before giving way. I'm surprised webber survived too but the guy needs some luck after a few years of horrid mishaps and failures with other teams.
