Hey guys, I have to change the oil on my car. I've had it serviced at VW for the last few years where they've been using castrol edge. I have to change it and wondering is there any difference between using castrol edge or liqui moly? About a $10 difference so not concerned on the price.
Unless you're actively sending off oil samples for testing and making informed decisions around which oil is "better", discussion around oils is hypothetical, anecdotal, and highly subjective.
The frequency of oil changes is more important than the exact brand of oil in most applications IMHO.
Either the Castrol or the LM will serve you well, along with Penrite and others - provided you use the correct specs as Hillbilly has mentioned.

^ agree 110% with this.
VW has had for many years had a relationship with Castrol for its oil - but this does not mean that Castrol is any better or worse than the other options on the market. The Castrol is currently on sale at Autobarn for an excellent price of $60 for 5L.Castrol
I used to use LiquiMoly but it kept getting more and more expensive (over $120 for 5L and very rarely on sale) and became harder to source locally, so I started using Penrite Enviro+ and Nulon Euro as they were cheaper and easier to access as I would just buy one when Supercheap/Repco had them on sale (these brands are regularly on sale). I change my oil every 6 months and don't want to spend more than about $13-15 per litre on oil.
But in more recent years, Liqui Moly has now become available at Supercheap/Repco so they are easier to source. And their price seems to have come back down to a more realistic amount.
