I hear ya Kosta..think I'm just going to do a decent cut and polish and try get a custom touch up paint mixed up for the little bits and pieces that need done.

Pardon me (a Noob) for jumping in here but a few things you should know... Some vinyls last longer than others so make sure you get the best quality available. It is commonly known as cast vinyl but some are better than others. Typically, we would use a vinyl specifically made for wrapping.

The bonnet can be done in one piece assuming you buy the correct size. Given that the bonnet is almost horizontal, the effects of the sun's heat (absorbed exceptionally well with matte black or Carbon Fibre look), UV, engine heat and atmospheric fallout will all be that much harsher than if the vinyl was applied to a vertical surface.

My guys wrapped a roof today in matte black and then measured the temp after 3 minutes in the sun. It went from 30 degress inside to 75 degrees in that short time.

I'm not aware of any vinyl that will last 10 years in these sort of conditions. Allow maybe 2-3 years max and then re-wrap. Laminating matte black is a bit pointless so fitting can be an issue. We would normally use an ezy-apply adhesive product. Definitely apply dry. Don't use water and detergent. Air egress is allowed for so the finish is smooth and good looking. Fold all edges down and wrap around.

The end result is similar to what you see in the pics above. Simply remove when ready and you'll see how good the paintwork still is PROVIDING you remove bird poop immediately and any tree sap or droppings of any sort immediately. I have seen the crosshatched adhesive pattern burned into paint by failure to remove such things straight away. Enough for now. PM me if you want specific advice but be specific with questions too. Vinyl wrappin'

What's peoples opinions on vinyl wrap?

I want to make my bonnet black...Paint jobs are pretty pricey specially if your like me and don't know anyone in the game.

I do however have a mate who I found out has done vinyl wrapping before and says if I can get the stuff he can do it.

Can anyone give me a heads up? I've read a bit on it so far and done a forum search but not alot of info.

Can anyone verify that interior heat skyrockets with vinyl wrapped rides?

Also, I was told the vinyl wrap needs a good quality shampoo, dry and maybe at most a good wash/wax and thats it. all done. Whats all this guff about hard to maintain and stuff?

The interior of a car can get hot, but the vinyl can withstand it.

Exterior....cleaning is easy. Hand wash (bucket, sponge and chamois with regular products) is recommended. "Wash & wax 2-in-1" detergents are ideal. Wax/polish/buff are neither necessary nor recommended.
We have been using a light-pressured Kärcher to wash and rinse our promo MX-5 since it was first wrapped, blasting the hell out of it every week. Just to put it through the test, against the manufacturer's recommendations. They advised that this could degrade the texture (carbon fibre was used on our car). We have found no issues or changes so far and will continue with this. No edges have lifted as they were all wrapped around to the back of each panel (a benefit of wrapping after stripping the car first).

All dirt and grease must be removed from the substrate before vinyl wrapping.

Another one - some areas of my body work have rather deep scratches. Do these scratches and any dents need to be perfected before the wrap can be applied?

Unfortunately...yes.

The vinyl is quite thin and deep scratches will show through. Dents will always show up.

ok, so if I fixed the scratches and dents and bogged and primed it (but not painted it) then I can vinylwrap that? Or is there some sort of base coat you’d like applied?

Yep, the wrap would be able to stick to the primer (it needs to be sanded with minimum 320 grit wet paper).

If you do it like that, you won't even need to get the panel PDR'd (just fill with bog).

Carbon fibre b-pillar overlays

Anybody bought those carbon fiber b-pillar overlays from VW? If so, how thick are they - have any pics?

I got my new car last week and the b-pillars were scratched to ****. I spoke to the sales manager and she said that I could have them replaced, but then there may be a risk of rattles, broken clips etc. when taking the door panels off and possibly not putting them back together properly (which knowing my luck will be the case). I have found a way to polish out the scratches and swirls marks using Swirl-X but apparently you just have to look at these plastics funny and they scratch...

Any other ideas?

MY mate got his Accord Euro's roof done in matt black/cf look alike. He hasnt any issues with it at all, apart that the guy who put it on didnt measure correctly and the edges arnt massively even.

And not to mention if you are going to get it profesionally done, its going to cost you around 300.
Do like me, and search on firesport.com or ebay etc, till you find someone who sells CF vinyls etc. I bought a sheet of 1x1 for around 50 and was very happy with it.
