So in effect, the clay bar removes the 'raised' surface blemishes (bugs, sap, spicks and specks) and the lime prime is a very mild polish or cutting compound to be used as the final clean before waxing/sealing? You would use the lime prime if the paint is is good condition and just needs a spruce up rather than a full make-over?

Question though, when applying Polish, and also when applying wax, what is the best method for application? Should an orbital tool be used?

hard vs soft wax

Hi all. I'm new to all this.

Wondering how difficult it is to apply hard wax by hand? If doing it by hand should I buy a soft wax? Was thinking of Dodo products.

I've applied hard wax by hand before and I used too much because it was hard to spread. That of course made it very difficult to get off as well. I'd recommend a dodo juice fingermitt or something similar to apply it, as you want the layer as thin as you can get it (because a thicker layer makes no difference!!)

Applied to the entire car by hand, yepyep.

If you've just applied it, you're obviously not going to want to polish it back off but anyway, if you want to give the car a polish you'll want to use a non-pH-neutral wash, such as autoglym powermax 3, which will strip the wax or sealant off so you can clay and then polish.

I probably wouldn't. What you've put on is a glazing polish, so it will hide all of the swirls while it lasts on top of the paintwork. Unfortunately with any glaze polish though, it's going to wear off and you'll just see them all again. Waxing it won't help because however long the bottom layer lasts on paintwork is the most you'll get, if that makes sense.

Cleaning
3.8 Litre Duragloss Car Wash Concentrate
Microfiber wash mit.
Mint microfiber drying towel.

Polish/Sealing
Then I will buy a polisher from supercheap or something (can't afford to buy one of the fancy ones from CCP) and apply my Menzerna Final Finish OEM Hi Cut 106FF. Then with another Microfiber towel apply the Zaino Z2 Pro Show Car Polish?

Am I missing a product/step?

So reading through this... I love the idea of the OCW, as I don't fancy spending 3hrs every time I want to give the car a good clean.

Would something like Dodo Supernatural every 6 months, with OCW done on a monthly basis have benefits? Or just stick with the OCW plain and simple?

I have been using the zaino wash and then one or two layers of z2 polish applied with applicator. And buffed off with cotton towels. Nice gloss, but I find dust collects very quickly within hours!

Am I doing something wrong or does this happen with poishes? Mines a deep grey blue pearl paint.

I did take my car through the bp super wash and wax once and that shine actually seemed to sat dust-free for longer than my struggling with hand polishing!

Please advise if theree is something else I could try

Yes. A foam app pad for the Lime Prime. Another for the Z2 Pro then a microfibre cloth for the Z8. If you don't already own everything and insist on using Z2 then ditch the Lime Prime for Z-AIO

Yes. A Clay bar and Clay Lube and Some foam pads to buff with as well as foam app pads for the Z2. Also my advice is to save up for the DAS-6 from CCP. Anything you get from Supercheap will be a rotary which is hard to use for a beginner (and some pros lol). If you do get a random orbital it will be crappy and underpowered.

If you want to go down that sort of route then i would suggest Dodo Red Mist over the top of supernatural. This will look nicer than just OCW, however is more expensive.

Hi Satz,

It could be that your putting a little static charge into the paint with the rubbing from the cotton towels. Switch to microfibre and if its still an issue give the car a wash and use Duragloss Aquawax as you dry it and it will solve the issue.

I'm a neewbie so please excuse this if it sounds stupid.
I am anxiously awaiting the new car which should arrive in December
I am thinking of doing a PPF such as VentureshieldStoneguard or 3M on delivery as well as using the GTechniq NanoQuartz sealant.
If I do this will I need to keep applying OCW every 3 months?
I am assuming with the PPF I will not need to use a Polish or need a ClayBar product?
My further assumption is that I will then only need to use a ph neutral wash to keep the surface clean until the GTechniq needs re-application in 2 years.
Does this sound right????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????
