Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • [Mystery to solve] Vibration in engine at slow speed

    Hello,
    I recently bought Skoda Octavia 2013 2.0 DSG 110kw.
There is a vibration at 1500rpg, especially when the engine is cold. Also seems to be a slight loss of power when accelerating. Engine is in pieces right now and they can't figure out what is wrong, they thought it must be either clutch or the flywheel, but both of them are fine.
    Anyone with the same experience?

    Thanks.

How many km's has it done? Why would they think clutch/flywheel when the vibration occurs more so when the engine is cold? Seems to me to be engine issues rather than DSG.

      Engine mounts?

They do wear out, but seeing as we dont know kms etc, just a guess. Or you could have had a dodgy one.

I had done mounts twice on my A4.

Very interested in the outcome of this. I have just bought a MY16 TSI 110 DSG and have a very similar issue. Very prominent rattle / vibration when the engine is cold which dissipates as the engine warms up.

Is the vibration worse under acceleration? If so it could be CV's. My previous car (Honda Accord Euro) had a vibration under acceleration at mostly low rpm speeds and it ended up being stuffed CV's.

This may be no use, but have you tried filling the car with 98 octane and see if the vibration changes?

Don't think it will be CVs in my case as the vibration is there when the car is stationary

Surely it has to be a mount. Although, I have heard of buggered DPF valves doing something similar, almost a hesitance/loss of power at a particular RPM and rough running. But I would think that would throw a CEL.

A video of the vibration starting the engine from cold.

Just got the octavia back from a trip to the dealer. Turns out the exhaust had slipped a mount and was vibrating against something. A simple fix & no charge.
