Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Bluetooth not streaming media - MkII vRS

Recently took ownership of a 2009 MY10 vRS liftback. It has the columbus RNS510 radio and bluetooth that seems factory integrated as in it appears in the MFD and also when pushing the phone button on the columbus.

Problem is that the columbus doesn't give me the option of selecting bluetooth audio under the media button. The setup menu has bluetooth audio enabled, the phone is paired for media and calls. When I play audio on the phone it is being played via bluetooth but I can't get the columbus to output the sound.

I've been in hundreds of VW's and Skoda's so I know how the bluetooth system works. This one just doesn't!

    Any ideas?

Does alternating between AUX and BLUETOOTH on the touchscreen yield any results ?

Are you able to try another phone to see whether the inconsistency is with the phone or the car? If that's no good, have you tried deleting your phone from the car then pairing it up again ?

The bluetooth option doesn't even come up when I hit media. Tried multiple phones and re-pairing.

Very strange that the phone is detected but not audio. Are you sure the bluetooth icon is not shown in the media page?

          yep

As mentioned I've paired my bluetooth up to dozens if not hundreds of VAG cars so know how it works very well... When it works!

You car probably doesn't have the correct BT module to allow BT streaming.

Yeah I was just thinking, these didn't really come with BT properly for ages and a lot of people added in various modules themselves. So it's likely it just has the voice one. And whether its properly connected to the inbuilt mic is another story.
