Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Drivers power window issue

My window goes down with no drama's.

    Up is another story.

Sometimes it will act properly and reach the top with no problems.

Other times it will go up in 3 stages.

Or up a bit then back down.

    Any ideas?

Had an issue like this with A4. Window driver motor failing. They do weird things when failing. Mine kept driving up when it had reached the top and then would go down too far.

This up then back down behaviour sounds like the anti pinch safety is kicking in.
There may be too much resistance in the window rails, give them a good clean.

Also the Mk5 VW had a issue with the wires breaking in the door hinge, and the motors are known to fail also.

Get a scan, if the motor is dying there is a good chance it will show up a code
      Something like
      00932 -Electric Window Motor;
Drivers Side (V147) 012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - Intermittent
      MK4 GTI - Sold
      MK5 Jetta Turbo - Sold
      MK5 Jetta 2.Slow - Until it dies.

Interesting.. My mk5 Golf has had an intermittent problem with the rear passenger window for ever... Dealers can never find it... Would the broken wire in door hinge result in the code you mentioned?

No. Broken wire might show as unable to communicate.
Ive only heard of front door wire issue as it was too short.

No help, but I have exactly the same problem. I had it serviced in February and they couldn't find anything wrong, so I'd be keen to hear if anyone has a solid answer.

have you tried resetting the thresholds of the power windows?

with the ignition on (so you can use the buttons) close the window all the way and let go of the button. then press and hold the 'up' button for the window in question. youll hear a click, let the switch go. then, open the window all the way down. let go of the switch, then press and hold the 'down' button until you hear a click again. you really only need to hold them for 3-5 seconds - if you cant hear any click.

I recently encountered a Mk3 Octavia Wagon that did something like this - it was the drivers window switch.
Get it looked at by your local service department.
