Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Automatic folding side mirrors

    Hi all,

Apologies if this has be covered to death but I haven't been able to find any results.

3 weeks down and another 20 or so weeks to go.

After finalising the order for my RS I discovered the automatic folding mirrors in the comfort pack which I didn't opt for but it is a feature I'd like to include. Not too sure if it's too late to request it, but are the automatic folding mirrors a programmed feature, or are they a different set of mirrors all together?

You should check with your dealer on how far down the factory production line your order has flown. You can make changes to your order till status 20 is allocated, which means no further changes can be made and this usually happens closer to the build date. The auto folding mirrors are a different set of motorised mirrors with the auto dim coating for night driving. You can't program this feature as the normal mirror doesn't have the electrical motor that makes them auto fold.

Don't the normal mirrors come with that coating? They did in the MkII.

Is it possibly to have the standard mirrors fold manually via a button? If that's the case, then I won't bother opting for the comfort pack...

For that to work you need a motorised mirror. So to answer the question, you can only fold standard mirrors manually.

As far as I know they don't. Happy to be told otherwise.

Nah, on the MkII only the interior mirror was auto-dimming, not the exterior mirrors. This is the case on the vRS at least, maybe the Elegance included this feature?
