  • Engine Noise

All silly questions and answers aside.

I have a Used Facelift 2010 Octavia Rs 147TSI (49,000km). I have noticed since owning it there is a noise coming from the front section of the engine that getting louder. Even when I'm cruising you can hear a faint noise.
Would this be linked with the timing belt or even the fans??

    Thanks in advanced 😀

If its a 2010, it will have the tsi motor (not tfsi), so cam chain. They have a known issue with the tensioner. Get it checked out by an independent service specialist.

Ethan is it a ticking noise? And the ticking gets faster if you rev the engine a bit? If so its just the fuel injectors which are quite loud on these engines.

We can meet up quickly over the weekend if you want me to have a listen.

The engine has a timing chain, not a belt

You only heard the injectors from outside or when looking under the bonnet
You can't hear the injectors from inside the cabin

i'm referring specifically to the injectors - the ticking noise that can only be heard from the outside/under-bonnet.
                can't hear it from inside.

                  Cheers Guys!
Had a look at some YouTube videos and there was one with a White GTI that started up and sounded similar to mine. (My car being way superior to any golf &#128540

So I'm starting to relax a bit knowing that's it's not only car that make this noise. Is there a way to make it quieter? Or it is what it is??

Plus there is a rasp-ish noise with the turbo under moderate acceleration. Have I not waited long enough for the car to warm up or is this a different area, if so can it be resolved?

                    Engine Noise

^ that rasp is more than likely the wastegate on the turbo rattling. You can get a metal clip which reduces the sound by about 90%. I have one on our GTI.
