  • Skoda vRS mkII Wastegate Rattle (VW TPi 2021062/12)

    Hi,

i realise that this a long-winded topic but as yet I've been unable to find a definitive answer:

Have Skoda AU recognised the wastegate rattle issue (VW TPI 2021062
    /12)?

I am certain that my "new" 2013 vRS (collected last week) has this issue and before I approach the dealer, would
like to know if any other mkII Octavia vRS owners have successfully had this repaired?

I know it's a small fix but to me it's the principal of the matter and if I have evidence of previous owners having it repaired under warranty then hopefully there won't be any issues.

    Cheers

There's a whole thread about it in the Octavia section & also in the Golf section.

It's a $5 clip that takes about 15 minutes to fit.

Yes, several Octavia owners have had their wastegate rattle fixed

mine had it, but it was nowhere near as loud as what others had.
even the vw technician struggled to hear the rattle on mine.

i never ended up getting it. can't even hear it now.
maybe the apr exhaust has something to do with it.

here is a link to a discussion thread i started a while back now.

i've also heard some people have ended up removing the clip as it started to affect the wastegate operation after a while.

figure of speech - like V8 Supercars always lose a race because of a $5 part.

You can get them for <$20 though.

So my experience went as follows:
              - take car in and demonstrated noise to mechanic. suggested that he maybe look at a similar vw tpi (without sounding like a know-it-all)
              - receive call from service supervisor - "you were right about the wastegate issue. We've installed the clip and it's good to go"
              - collect car and some rattle noise still present - much quieter though
              - return car to service dept. mechanic says he'll check everything over again and test drive other rs's to compare.
              - receive call from service supervise "we've checked everything and nothing is loose or untoward. Other rs's sound the same"
              - pickup car and accept that the workshop have done everything they can

the service I received on the whole was good and the mechanic was thorough and understanding. The noise is really not intrusive now after the clip install and is only present when the car is driven a certain way - something I'm happy to live with.

Just bought one from AliExpress with free postage... had it for 1.5yrs so can handle the 30-45 day wait... especially after receiving it, it will probably take me a month to even getting around to installing it.

did the exact same thing. aliexpress job, genuine part in genuine box.

got a mate to install it, you need strong hands that don't feel pain to get it on properly.

the noise isn't completely gone, but its VERY quiet now!

its a PITA job to do. you need small but very strong hands.

I had a mate install it while it was on the hoist.

go on alibaba, buy the genuine part direct from the factory. get workshop to install. it will be easier and faster than fighting skoda for a $16 part
