Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      • I was told repeatedly by Superskoda that those mudflaps won't fit on the RS or the Scout. It says it on the actual page they are on as well

        • I ordered the below mudflaps from Aliexpress about 6 months ago and they fit fine (2015 RS Wagon) - not OEM of course.

Buy Products Online from China Wholesalers at Aliexpress.com

Works out to be a little over $20 AUD delivered.

                • What did you do to your Octavia today?

Well, on Saturday my other half took the car key. So I found my spare key to only realize the battery was dead...

So I took off the key panel next to the door handle and unlocked the car.. (Done it before when my original key was "low" on battery)

Jumped in the car and went oh, well how do I start the car?

I pressed the ON button as I have KESSY,

Boy does my RS Octavia have an alarm!!!! It went for a good 5-8 mins!!!!

Called the other half and she was 20 mins away and I have to get to my work! Oh well...

Now need to replace battery in key at dealership.

But good to know if someone does get into my car and tries to start it, they will run away from the car!

                  • an E63 parked at the cafe next to our Octy wagon, the doors unlocked, windows down. weird
next thing, our Octy wagon's remote didn't work. Just no response (light on the remote was flashing as normal). We removed the door handle lock cover and unlocked using the key. Turned the car on and everything back to normal.
maybe the E63 was a decepticon?

                      • So if you have KESSY and your key battery goes flat, you can get into the car, but you won't be able to start it? Well, that's clever! The wise thing to do then, would be to keep a spare battery handy.

You seem to chew through batteries a lot in yours. I thought they have something that pops up on the screen now to tell you when the battery is getting low. You would want it to long before it went dead. On our Santa Fe it gets ****y but if the key is in a little adaptor hole when flat it will still read the chip on it and start. I'd suspect there might be somewhere like that in the Skoda, possibly mentions it in the manual.

                            • Yes, according to the manual, there is a warning that pops up (presumably on the maxidot) when the key battery is running low. There is something in the manual about pressing the start button with the end of the key if the car is having trouble recognising the key - no mention though, that this is how you start the car if the key battery is flat.
I've been told that Mercedes allows you to pop the cap off the start button and use the cut key - old fashioned style.

                              • I've got an ordinary keyfob and keystart.
The batteries in both keys were reported on the display at about the same time after about 26 months.
I tested the voltage of the old batteries and they were still just over 3 volts and the new replacements registered 3.2 volts.
The test is particularly severe. I don't think I replaced a battery on either of the mk2's keys in the 6 years I had it.
