Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I have installed after market sensors inside the wheel rim.
    Seemed fine this morning.

    • doh! I got a puncture last week too front left. Interestingly i didn't realise it was flat as it sounded and drove normally. i assumed the pressure just dropped and I needed to top up the air. As a result it suffered side wall damage only drove 100m after TPMS warning came up. I wish the TPMS on our columbus systems actually gave PSI readings of each tyre. Mine will only tell me which tyre is low. something is better than nothing I guess.
my bridgestone Potenze S0001's were getting low and were super noisy. so Unfortunately wasn't feasible to just get 1 new tyre. I replaced all 4. Decided to go with Hankook H457's after recommendation from the tyre place and have been pretty happy with the noise and performance paid $218NZD per corner incl. fitting and balancing. So pretty happy with that considering Nitto Invo's, Ponteza RE003's, Eagle F1's etc. are over $300NZD

      • How many Kms did you get out of the S0001s, mine got a side wall nail when one month old. Surprised it came with Bridgestones really, but never looked into what was coming on new ones, just assumed it would be a euro brand. My Michelins on my Mk2 lasted 60k and were awesome tyres.

        • Got 42k out of the S0001's the last 3K was really noisy. noticed cracks in the rubber as well as they were changing them. I agree I expected Michelin Pilots or something. But definitely will not be going back to S0001's ever again.

          • What did you do to your Octavia today?

Replaced my failed radiator overflow bottle, and fitted the gfb DV+: what a difference! I believe that the factory blowoff valve may have had a split since I've owned the car- around 18 months now, it just failed completely a few days ago.

The car already had the apr stage 1 tune when I bought it, but now it really feels torquey: beat it's been in my ownership!

On the list for today is to get (yet another) front tyre puncture fixed: I have never had so many punctures since fitting the Nitto invos: it's like they attract pointy things!

I've already had to bin one due to the puncture being too close to the side wall...

Michelin PS4 in 225/40R18. Down from 235/40R18 as they scrub too much... New wheels on the cards too, as I'm over the gutter rash that came with these ones. Blame the previous owners wife.

Also actually drove it for the first time in a month, properly, and managed to park it inside at work.

Scrub too much where? on the guards? I'm looking at going to 235 but my Mk2 isn't as lowered as yours. I'm running 18*7.5 ET45

Mostly on the securing between the guards and the bumpers - front and rear. A little on the guard lips themselves, though, also.

Yeah I caught up with T Bone the other day and his is dropped - looks really good
Is a work car though so needs to be practical, has more clearance than I expected and haven't scrapped it on any drives yet
Will get the front lip spoiler first and see if there is room to maybe drop 35mm
