  • Hi all,

Experienced an interesting issue with my Columbus (in my MY15 Octavia RS). Not sure if this has been reported here, there or everywhere or experienced by anyone else here...

But if you exceed 1000 files in a folder in an SD Card (I would think this might include USB sources too), which is not hard to do depending how you arrange your music, basically the player refuses to read any files in excess of the 1000 limit. This includes even trying to play those "excess" files through a playlist. The player will show a little music symbol with a red line through it next to the file and if you try to play it, it says it can't find it or something. I was quite intrigued and investigated whether the files were corrupt or whether my SD card had a problem. After ruling those causes out, I moved the "excess" files to a sub-folder (thereby reducing the number of files in the parent folder to less than 1000) and everything was working fine again.

Solution? Don't put more than 1000 files in a folder. Yes, it says it in the manual, but I report this in case anyone else noticed this behaviour and is a bit confused as to what's going on.

Got exactly the same warning this week. Tyres seemed OK but after checking the pressure one was down by about 2 psi compared to the others. Refilled them then re set sensor and everythings now fine. The pressure sensor seems quite sensitive.

It all falls into place now, I forgot that necessary bit of information, so many long awaited cars have arrived recently.
Still for $10 you cannot go far wrong. Do you need measurements for the Mk3 boot area to confirm if the liner is the right size?

        • bucket list item checked off yesterday. Great drive. But nobody warned me about the plague of tourists in hired hatchbacks and campervans leading to the 12 Apostles.

The Octy RS went well, but I feel my old AWD H6 Liberty was more sure footed and could carry slightly more corner speed on the tighter bends. Where the RS shines is in its torque curve, acceleration is great on boost, far superior to the Subaru, making overtaking a breeze. It was also less crashy over bumps, making the ride more comfortable. I was surprised by the wind noise from 100kmh, quite a bit at 110kmh, and there is some road noise, which will worsen as the tyres age. The steering and clutch are both a bit light, irrespective of 'mode'. The seat was firm but comfortable for 700kms in 2 days, and suitable supportive through the twisty stuff. I averaged 7.1 K/100km for the 700km tank, which included AC on all the way and some very spirited squirts when traffic permitted. Car now has ~1400kms in total, so economy is still improving.

Yes Indeed. A well known issue at any time of the day/year. Some great drives inland from Apollo Bay though.

Nice review. I'm thinking along the same lines but haven't driven enough to fully comment. Clutch is surprisingly light, almost cause for some embarrassment the first few drives ! Driving around the city it's a very easy drive. Comfortable in the traffic and at low speed, no need to be on and off the clutch, hill assist was a surprise the first few times .

            • A question for my fellow Octavia owners. For those of you with the tech pack option. Is the collision protection always active? or is it linked to the adaptive cruse control in some way? I understand it is only works when travelling at a certain speed but does the ACC need to be "on" to enable to front mounted radar?

Always active (annoyingly so at times !) Warns of potential collision. The manual is a bit confusing to me at this stage so cant absolutely state if the brakes will apply in the event of impending collision. There are a couple of systems involved - proximity sensing and the radar. (Only done 300 k's so still getting the hang of it)

My understanding is that the ACC doesn't need to be on but the collision protection is always active. Comes in to play when it senses an emergency manoeuvre.

Based on the sensitivity of the parking sensors, an emergency manoeuvre could be the minutest thing!

                    • You won't need to test it - it'll be a matter of time until you see it go off

Mine doesn't go off frequently, but it will tend to go off when the car in front of me turns into a side-street and I'm a little bit close. The other time it goes off is when the traffic in front of you suddenly stops, which may or may not be a surprise if you're awake

                        • hope it's better than the similar system my wife had on her Mondeo.

POW! straight up the clacker of a HiLux. HiLux drove away. $800 damage to the Mondeo.

$800 , that would only be a minor scratch wouldn't it, if it was claimed through insurance.

                              • I was a passenger on my workmates Forestor XT. This thing went off continously as she drives too fast and too close to cars on the freeway. Thats ignoring how many times the adaptive cruise kept braking as she drove up behind someone rather than changing lanes.
