Got it from Frankston when I am 2km from Brighton. The sales guy knows his Skodas inside out. Owned a Pre-FL RS and now has a Mk3. A true Skoda sales person as opposed to a VW guy selling Skoda on the side. They are selling more Octy RS's than golf GTI's at the moment.

After sale service is OK. No complimentary loan car though. They have fixed priced servicing on Octy's, they match the equivalent golf and use that price. Diesel RS = GTD. Just did the 12month service. Thought I should at least do 1 service with them. It is a 60km return trip for a service though.

As for the RS wagon, put a single bed mattress in the boot the other day, dropped the back seats, and the entire mattress fit in completely flat with the boot closed. Not many SUV's can do that.

      +1. Many have been surprised.

I've done that a few times with my liftback.
1st time i had 2x single beds with a daybed from ikea.
      2nd time from fantastic furniture.

I would go with Octavia wagon, ...more practical.

Put down a deposit for a silver ambition plus wagon yesterday with front parking sensors, to be delivered in August. Would love to have the tech pack as well but the car is for my wife and she said she didn't need the extra stuff, oh well, saved me some money lol

Tech pack is great, never had a car with cruise set to 80kph and slow itself to a standstill before. Also, if the cars in front move off before it stops it accelerates back up again.

Haha I know, but I guess her point was that she didn't want to get too lazy behind the wheel and she has been driving long enough without all these features.

Not saying all women are the same but my wife gets a top of the range Holden / Falcon / Mondeo or an entry level Passat or CC as a company car & then uses none of the tech. She'd be better off in a 1976 Galant. She is weird though.

The dealer quoted pretty much the same price for the VW Comfortline Wagon and Octavia Ambition Plus Wagon, so it was pretty much down to the feel after test driving both back to back.

Golf Wagon: The 16 inch wheels are good for suburban streets, quiet and comfortable, but once speed picks up or going through sharp bends and roundabout, the car was swaying / leaning and my wife commented that it felt like a boat and she didn't like it. She also found that while the reverse camera was handy, she found herself focus too much on the screen and not the surrounding of the car. When I was driving it, I found the 90TSI was a bit slow to my liking, really amplified the lag between stepping on the accelerator and the car started going.

Octavia: Loved that steering wheel and dash layout, simple and sleek. The 17 inch wheels on the car made it more planted on the road, and felt more sporty than the Golf, while road noise was only slight more than the Golf but we could live with that. The engine had a real go in it and was a delight on both freeway and suburban road. While Octavia has a slight shallower boot, it's wider than the golf, that makes a different especially putting pram on one side and still have enough room to put shopping / baby stuff next to it. Lastly, the Octavia's body was designed to be a wagon, and the whole thing looked classy and would age well. The Golf was a stretched hatchback and didn't look right.

I'm not up on the specifics but I think he might be wanting to know engine / drivetrain combo?

Oh, the ambition plus has 103 tsi and I opted for 7 speed dsg. But you can get it in manual too.

                                Thanks for the detailed review.
I'm taking the Golf wagon out for a spin tomorrow, so see how that goes compared to the Octavia. Just a shame I wont be able to do the two cars back-to-back due to time constraints (got to hand the baby over to his dad over his lunch break, and this is the only chance for almost 2 weeks).

oh, and FWIW, if I go with the Octavia, I wont be getting the tech pack - I find the computer telling me how to park anoying (and Im a woman).
