Intercooler change DIY

You know you have expel and regas the aircon to install the intercooler?

No, not required.

Lift the front up high, remove the bumper, lights & undertray. Remove the IC hoses. Remove or loosen the front crash bar. Undo the bolts that sandwich the IC in-between the radiator & the AC condensor. Carefully slip the IC downwards out of the sandwich.

Reverse to assemble.

I hope that's how it works

I got a set of them from ebay also

quite easy to fit, a hoist makes it 1000000000 times easier.

the right-hand pipe with the sensor flange didn't fit the sensor for me. the thread is wrong for the factory bolts. so buy some beforehand that fit in the holes.

I bought the same kit as well and had the above problem. The sensor flange also was pointing the wrong direction so a hose hit it, meaning that after finding bolts that worked, I couldn't mount it in the right direction. I ended up zip-tying it on which has worked. Theres a little gap under the plastic of the sensor, but its double o-ringed, should be fine.

Not only that but I found that it was overall long enough at the bottom, so I had to reallllllly stretch the passenger side hose to make it reach. And then the metal drivers side one in that kit didn't fit at all, seemed completely different in length and its mounting points didnt reach out... Funny, as you have an Octy as well???

I just had a thought- I was going to get the twintercooler ebay version as even though I can see more potential/less lag from the one Lucas got, half the reason Im buying it, is so it looks tough That one doesnt really poke out near the front at all... I have HEAPS of space, at least 6 or 7 cm before I have to cut anything.

I wonder if THIS UNIT could be mounted with long bolts and spacers and longer tubing to make it fill the gap more? The idea is it looks good enough so that I can remove the horizontal slats from my grill which look poo, saving me money on a honeycomb grill.

I think I'm going to have to give in on the looks department, and gst this one for pretty much guaranteed non lag vs twintercooler...

Looking in do the fins line up with each other for better flow speed?

I have no idea. its sitting on the floor in my garage.

I wanted to keep my car stock looking, which is why I don't have a 4m truck core sitting in front of my bumper. IMO the twintercooler is a pretty poor setup. 2 cores don't equal better cooling or better flow. Essentially you have increased your volume by 2.

Anyway, this SHOULD be a bolt-in installation. might attempt it this weekend, I think I have the time.........

That's good to hear, Mike. I was a little worried, but with the price I can easily move it on if its not suitable for my car.

darkshadow, yes ill be installing myself, if I can get the workshop this weekend ill have a hoist, but I might end up in my garage.

Looks easy as hell, just the four bolts on the inside of the rad which hold it onto the intercooler look to be a major PitA (yes I've already sussed it all out :p)

Also, the core/piping looks exactly the same on the diesel!
How large is the TSI intercooler? TDI is 32mm

Your's is the same as mine. Even a GolfR intercooler would be an improvement. Cheap too.... until you add $200 worth of extra pipes

I just pulled the plug on the same one. stage 2+ bluefin being loaded on Monday.

Freaking eBay, US to Aus 'estimate' conversion on the site comes up to $430 posted, but ends up with $448 by the time it gets to PayPal. Ah well
