I think plenty of people would.

When I was at Toyota we used to get a basic version of the Corolla for weekend sales. No radio, no AC, no parcel shelf. It was absolute bare-bones & we'd get 10 (which would fill up the holding yard). Advertised in Saturdays paper as a price leader & the 10 would be sold by 9.30. Then they'd attempt to upsell the rest of the enquiries & sell another 10.

Not everyone wants a car with "extras"

    • One of the dealers near me has a really basic Yeti with window winders that he hasn't been able to move in months.

My kids don't know what window winders are and they didn't have a clue how to use a phone with a rotary dial when I showed them one.

Rear windows were manual?! Are you serious!!?

I'd buy that and put it in a museum! (Personal garage sorry)

          • I miss manual window winders for some odd reason. I remember when CC and power windows were luxury items and everytime someone bought a car they would ask if you got CC with it.

Rear manual winders aren't so bad, the rear windows would hardly ever be used for a lot of people. I use them to do a quick vent on a hot day and lock them so my kids can't open the windows.

            • Some of the loaners from my mechanic have manual windows & I'm embarrassed to say that they are a pain in the bum.

I don't think I could stand the Euro/UK style of only having pwr windows in the front. My commute & a lot of my work driving goes out into the country / bush & it's great to turn off the AC & open all the windows & get the smells of the eucalypts or a field of flowers - even a freshly manured field isn't too bad.

I reckon I drive with all 4 windows down about 60% of the time

              • I've never waited 3 months+ for a new car (inc. VW).
Golf R or GTI, I can understand..... (special cars).... but a family wagon?
                Only a sunroof as extra?

                From dealer yesterday..

.........., yes, the Octavia wagons are in short supply particularly in diesel. April delivery applies to orders placed prior to the end of January as they will be built during February & March for arrival here during April. However, free stock (stock available to choose from) will not be available until the end of the third quarter of 2014.

Best advice I can provide, if you are interested in purchasing an Octavia wagon, identify your choice of colour and options, place an order with a deposit and insure you get the car you want 12 weeks later or a little earlier.
Note: With demos.. dealer said they have to keep them 60 days.
They got a diesel last week.

Will the Mk7 Golf wagon be available earlier?

                • I have to agree, selling only customer orders & only bringing proper floor stock (stock on spec) after 9(?) months on the market is bizarre.

I guess it's an indication of how well the Mk3 has been received.

Plenty of Mk6 wagons out their I assume - all the local government minions seem to be driving them.

                  • A sunroof is quite often the cause of ordered cars for most makes, the panoramic one in particular has held up delivery times across all of VAG on and off for years. I noticed most of the stocked Elegances seemed to have them, but even years back with the RS there was about 1 sunroof for every 8 without. Remember this car only came out in December in Australia and had to include obviously demo stock which would have sucked up more than usual so stocks will be low. 3mths isn't actually that bad really, they normally take a lot longer. They have been really strict about not selling the demos either which I can understand, at least they have something to show for people to order.

Skodas in general are more sought in Europe/UK than VWs and are made as fast as they can. You could argue they need to expand production facilities but they did a few years back and still can't keep up. That free stock will all most likely be the end of run MY14 stock as well if its late Q3 so if anyone wants whatever changes in the MY15 (probably nothing) they will be waiting on an order again.

I should add, I sit right across the road from a big VW dealer that I walk via their yard a lot and I can't comprehend why anyone would want the Golf Wagon, I would always feel like I got the poor cousin that still seems a VW add on afterthought compared to the Octy wagon which has been around a lot longer.

                      • The Mk6 Golf Wagon was pretty slapped together, but they put more effort in the Mk7 wagon.

Most of the european shootouts still rate the Octy Wagon over the Golfs, I don't have the measurements on me but I think the Octy is bigger than the Golf Wagon by a fair margin.

                        • My mk2 liftback has more boot space than the mk6 golf wagon - 580L to 505L.
                          I haven't checked the mk7 golf wagon.
Speaking off, I'm glad they got it right this time - the mk6 wagon looks horrible!

                          • Often measuring boot space in litres can be deceiving. The Golf Wagon was actually a longer vehicle than the Mk2 Octavia Wagon, and had a longer boot from memory. The biggest advantage the Golf had over the Octavia was that it didn't have the lip in the floor once the seats were folded.
