  • I can personally recommend the 3M Scotchtint, as I have it on my current Honda Euro and after 9 years not one bubble or discolouration. If you can get it installed for anything like the $300 being suggested here that would be a great deal.

Only yesterday I got a quote from the WA agent for 3M Scotchtint as was provided the following quote for a station wagon:

"We have two 3M films available to tint your vehicle. Costings are as follows:

Black: Colour Stable film, colour derived from Carbon which will maintain appearance with no colour shift or fading - Guaranteed. Contains no metals at all so it won't interfere with embedded aerials in glass, GPS or Bluetooth devices. Will block 99% of UV rays, strong heat and glare reduction properties, providing 25% heat reduction.

    CS35 $420

Crystalline: Multi-layered Nano technology film. Contains no metals at all so it won't interfere with embedded aerials in glass, GPS or Bluetooth devices. Blocks 99.9% of UV and 97% of Infra-Red energy. Excellent heat performance providing 50% heat reduction.

    CR40 $700

Both of these are available in the darkest legal tint. Alternately we have a light version of each should you require enhanced visibility but will still reduce UV and heat entering the vehicle." This includes a lifetime Nationwide warranty.

If you are a member of a motoring association e.g. RACWA, they offer $50 of the price.

    • I'm assuming the above is a place in Osborne Park? If so, I had my car done there about 18 months ago, and have no complaints with the CS35 (was $350 when I had it done) to this point.

I think my dealer is unhappy with me for calling Skoda Australia. I think further correspondance will be limited from now on. I pick up the RS in two weeks. Car is ready for pickup...but im in syd for another 10 days. Boo!!

Yes, DMS is an installer for 3M window tints in Osborne Park WA and the only agent of 3M tint in WA that I am aware of but I expect there are many installers of 3M Scotchtint nationwide. The price of the CR40 seems expensive and I will be looking for the company to justify the additional outlay over the CS35 before I commit.

Given my car is due to arrive in Fremantle on 20/5, I am starting to shop around for extras I intend to install such as tinting, sheep skin seat covers and front and rear dash cameras. The wife would also like to add some extras from superskoda such as the red leather hand brake cover, foot operated sensor for electric boot and worst of all, the eye brows for the headlights. If I let her get her way it would turn into an episode of Pimp my Ride.

                • Anyone can recommend a place to do window tints in Melbourne SE?

Also I just noticed in the specs, the Elegance and RS seems to get window tint and sunset privacy glass as standard.
Anyone can comment on the above whether they're dark enough?

                  • Almost all cars have tint windows - it's only about 85% VLT though.

I'm not a fan of privacy glass as it doesn't block as much UV as tint film so you still need a clear film if you want to block UV. It's also hard to get a nice match with the front.

                    • New Octavia ....when? How Much?

I did mine along with paint protection at Mr Detail (Mr Detail Mr Detail - Melbourne Car Detailing, Paint Protection and Car Care Products) on Poath Road near Hughesdale station. Nick is your guy, check his work on their Facebook page (https://m.facebook.com/finerdetail?r...%2Ffinerdetail).

Personally, I like staying within the legal limits and the privacy glass is dark enough. I got them to apply a clear film with UV protection on the rear windows and then match the tint on the front 2 windows. Worked a treat and a good job, carrying lifetime warranty.

                      • Correction. I found the auto wipe feature, but it says "int" on the stalk when others usually say auto... Anybody tried retrofitting an rvc??

                        • Thanks Brad & Venom ...
I'll check out whether the factory tint is sufficient. If not, I'll get in touch with Mr Detail, apparently they're < 10 minute drive from me.

I will be collecting the car in the coming week..hopefully no order/spec screw ups, fingers crossed.

The other advantage to aftermarket is that you can go darker than legal - if you're prepared to possibly have issues with the po-po at some point lol.
In VIC, most dealers use Worldmark for their tint (and after market accessories) and most tint companies use exactly the same product. In every car I've bought and every dealer I've ever been to this has been fact. It costs more at a dealer as after market accessories including tint simply is a way for them the boost their margin up (they run a business not a charity after all).

IIRC most films are 3M from the reputable tinters. If you are paying $300+ it'll be the better stuff & this is what the dealers use too.

                            • Hi all

I am looking to buy a new rs with tech pack and other assorted accessories. The dealer in Canberra(Lennock) does not have in stock.
Has anyone here bought a new car from a interstate dealer. If yes, was the experience worthwhile?

Yeah, this is true. I didn't really think about that. I just got hooked on the mark-up part.
