I was asking in another thread about all these bolt on options, of which most are 'decat'. From reading above people saying it will be for track only...
My question is, as 95% of these on eBay are decat, is running one of these to an otherwise stock exhaust illegal in Victoria?
If so, what is the work around? Buy one only if it has a low-cell, hi-flow cat? Just not really sure about this point which osy main hold up on buying one. I assume there's so many for sale all the same its got to be right
One more thing, does this one look right for my car? They all have the same turbo mount and exit diameter, and 2 o2 sensors, and the double mount hooks.. just length is the issue.
Going to an Muffler Man Prahran tomorrow to see if one he has there fits. Its a Polo one that someone bought from the states and it didn't fit... If it doesnt fit mine, I'll get this, it says Jetta MKV!:
BUT its: Pipe Size: 3.0" / Pipe Outlet Size 2.5". SO I'm imagining I'd have to go for a 3" cat? Zei20t and dArK5HaD0w, are your downpipes 2.5"?
I've got a quote of about $80-120 for them to weld in the cat, and me install the rest first. Is that steep?
My final question would be on which cat to go for. Is there a 100 or 200 cell requirement? Are brand names going to make a difference?
Theres a $100 worse name brand 2.5" 100cell, a $125 2.5" 100cell Magnaflow which to me is a more familiar brand? And also this 2.5" Stainless Steel Outlaw 200cell with an extra layer for reinforcement from scrubs.. Not that you can really bash they cat since it sits up in a nice channel on the Octy.
I got a quote today for the job. He couldn't believe how cheap the downpipe was shipped on ebay, but gave me a scare about the really good quality LOOKING brushed cats that are actually very thin with small 'bricks' inside.
So he quoted me $500 for a custom made downpipe with a cat included (@ $175). If I wanted to get the bits in myself and get him to weld it up and then ill install it all, it would only save me $50 with him.... although another crowd quoted and it would have been another hundred less.
Now a funny thing he noticed (37 years experience) was that the right side of the muffler tip is actually blocked off! Go check your own stock exhausts if you have them still! Everyone on here says the downpipe is the only restriction but I wonder now, is it? Cant fork out for a cat-back
