Looks awesome, very similar to what I have...and it goes really hard (with StageII ECU)

I'm told that you need and ECU update when installing this downpipe, no ECU changes needed for inlet and intercooler changes

yup, ill have a stage 2 superchips lined up ready to flash it. it 'compensates' for the lack of temperature change after the cat.

intake, S3 FMIC and cat-back exhaust should take me as far as I want to go engine-wise. at least while its still under warranty

Good to understand the reason why...thanks

I've done the intake, waiting for the APR intercooler

What's with this cat-back exhaust? What's the benefit?
(I'm worried about increasing noise levels any further)

hmmm APR FMIC. does it keep the factory location or is it right in front?

people say the cat-back exhaust is only noise, but noise and power/torque are related. yes its noisier, but no point having a big down-pipe if youre going to strangle it again 2m down the exhaust.

you can get nice quiet ones at low RPM and idle, but anything aftermarket it will always be noisier than factory.

No need for cat back unless you are wanting the noise - the stock catback flows well enough and is 2.5inch. Its the stock downpipe with the 2x very dense (800 cell i believe) catalic convertors which are the restriction.

Most aftermarket downpipes available for these cars will have either a 100 cell or 200 cell catalic convertor, so between 8-4 times less restrictive than one of the stock cats - and you have 2 of them.

I thought that the "stage 2" CEL flash requirement was that the ECU detected the difference in exhaust gas speed rather than temperature between the 2x o2 sensors. As far as im aware, the CEL illuminates because it detects the air is flowing too rapidy, and assumes the cat has failed. And for this reason, companies like 42DD who make the exhaust 02 spacer like this O2 Sensor Spacer remove the secondary o2 sensor away from the pipe so that it doesnt have as much ezhaust gas flow over it - therefore essentially tricking the ECU.

              Thanks Lucas - interesting details

My APR down pipe has a 200 cell cat

The APR FMIC uses the factory mounts but is almost 3 times larger in area
Should work well at the track and on those odd 40 deg days

thanks for that link to the spacer

if I get stuck I may need it.

looks like we were both wrong, its an O2 sensor before and after the cat(s). Makes sense to measure oxygen in the system. I believed the 2nd one to be a temperature sensor.

also this down pipe does not contain a cat. so of course this will only be used on track days. when I find some stock rims to put some semis on.

The post cat O2 sensor detects cat efficiency. It is part of the emissions system. If you remove the cat from the exhaust you need to either have your tuner code it out or you can sometimes get away with spacing it out of the exhaust gas flow.

That (going from 2 cats to 1) was the reason I went to an ecu stage 1, instead of a full exhaust.

Can i ask which site you got it from?
                          Thinking of doing the same..
Another quick on whoever knows.. Has anyone bought something like this from the states or Germany and then put a 3" high flow cat in the mix?

Seems a lot cheaper than the APR kit.
There is a guy in QLD who sells 3' high flow cats for $118
                          Catalytic Converters

So my calculations is for about $500 you can get a nice 3" dump pipe with high flow cat.

But you are not including the ECU tune

The APR Kit includes the ECU tune
The downpipe and tune together are a great combination - really brings the engine to life
This is a good value for money package imo

At the end of the Wakefield Park straight I was just touching 175kmph
I thought that was pretty good
By comparison a TDI was reaching 142kmph

I already have a Viezu VSwitch tune on my car so would probably just get a stage 2 map if needed.
