  • RS HID/LED fog lights

So I was searching around for a decent set of HIDs to put in the fog lights of my RS. Knock-off ones are $100ish, decent Philips burners are well over $200.

Ended up buying the Fabia RS factory LED ones from superskoda.

Octavia II Facelift 09-12 RS/SCOUT - LED fog(day)light set from the Fabia II RS model : superskoda.com

Should have the colour temp im after, and be plug and pray and for under AU$200 EMS delivered, I rekon its good value.

    Anyone else have a set?

    Why?

You lose the fog lamps which to me at least are way more useful.

When they arrive, post comparison pics!!

They probably have the same three-prong connector as the Octy vRS LED DRL's.

          plug and play for me

ill do comparison pics, they wont be replacing the DRLs, i just hate the yellow of the halogen. couldnt be bothered with HID. i dont drive in fog enough to warrant using them as fog lights. actually, ive only ever used fog lights once in australia - legally.

the wiring shouldnt be too hard, just need to work out if i need to duty cycle the LEDs, or if that circuit is built into the lamp.

Funnily enough - I was driving through pea soup today!
All fogs and high beams on, just so I could be seen.

                Good luck dealing with Superskoda!!!!

Just wait till they tell you the item is: not in stock, debit your account anyway, and then fail to return any of your emails...then send you an abusive email and Ban you from the site permanently just because you ask for un update on the dispatch date!!!

Yes...I am still feeling a bit sore about my whole ordeal with those buggers....

high beam & fog don't play well together.

High beams in fog? That's a sure way to blind yourself and have a crash.
You will see way more of the road with the lows on and it will make diddly squat difference as far as other people seeing you are concerned.

high beams in foggy weather is the worst thing to do!!

zei20t - so ur going to b effectively driving around with TWO sets of DRLs?!?!?!?
if u don't use these in "light" mode, they'll throw light out like DRLs. i.e. in ur face very bright.

in "light" mode - the light will b low & flat.

are u sure u can wire it up like that in the octavia vrs?
with the fabia vrs or the scout, they don't have seperate dedicated DRLs like the vrs does. so they're designed to have fogs/drl in one.

physically - will fit no probs.
                        wiring - not sure
                        operation - not sure.

anywayz....good luck with the install & let us know how it goes.

I don't plan to use them as DRLs. purely as a replacement for my rarely used fog/driving lights. yes its aesthetic but its also my car

wiring wont be a problem, ill be using the existing fog/driving light looms. I haven't physically seen them yet. but next week ill have a better idea.

someone on briskoda posted a pic of theirs, but I don't know whats at the back of ours. finding the plug may prove difficult, but if it was so easy everyone would do it

ok been searching for some more info on this. GTI guys have been gutting the insides of these and using them in MK5 golfs.

                            yes they are 3 pin:

                            Pin 1: DRL (all 4 @ 100%, I=380 mA)
                            Pin 2: Massa
Pin 3: PO (Positionlight) all 4 LED`s dimmed, I=55 mA

In the case that I ONLY want to use these in the place of fog lights, I can get away with using only 2 wires. I will probably never want to use them while dimmed, which leaves pin 3 redundant.

there is a massive heatsink on the rear of the unit, they can take 12v from the battery (however ill use the standard fog light loom) and hopefully they will draw enough power to fool the light error thingo.

                            all I need are plugs!

                              Guys,
I am not sure what the intent is here – but I feel I need to put in my two cents worth – and apologise in advance if this is not your aim.

Fog lights are not driving lights.

They do not dim on low beam.

They dazzle all oncoming motorists if used illegally when it is not foggy.

It is very dangerous to use them in non-foggy conditions on country roads. I must say I am continually frustrated by this and often feel like giving the users of the fog lights the full 140w of HID that I have – but then that would backfire because there would be two drivers that could not see anything and we would probably meet in the middle of the road……….
