Hardly surprising seeing at 12 months ago the Yeti had only just been released and Skoda were struggling to supply them.

 250 Skodas in Aug 2011.

 www.caradvice.com.au

Skoda has been one of the few manufacturers to defy the downturn in new vehicle sales in 2011. After the first eight months of the year, Skoda Australia has delivered 1418 vehicles, 41.5 per cent ahead of the same time in 2010.
Octavia sales are up 13.2 per cent (783 vs 692), Octavia Scout even more at 140.3 per cent (185 vs 77), while the Superb is the only car in the sub-$70,000 large car segment to improve compared with 2010 (450 vs 20 . .
With prices for the Fabia 77TSI Hatchback to start at $18,990 before on-road costs, the Volkswagen Polo-sized Fabia is set to become the volume seller for the Czech brand in Australia in 2012.

August was a strong month for everyone.

NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES RISE SIGNIFICANTLY IN AUGUST

 5th September, 2011

New motor vehicle sales rose significantly in August 2011 compared with the same month last year, according to official figures released today by the FCAI.

88,082 new vehicles were sold during August, representing an increase of 7.3% (or 5,960 vehicles) over August 2010.

Among the top 10 best-selling makes Mazda had its best-ever month, ranking third in August with 9,138 new vehicle sales. Passenger vehicles accounted for 6,783 of Mazdas sold, up more than 44% on August 2010.

Sales of Holden’s locally manufactured vehicles were up 55% month-on-month, reflecting strong demand for the company’s Commodore and Cruze models.

Mr Payne said private and business customers are continuing their shift toward compact SUVs and 4x4 utility vehicles, with respective sales growing 4.9% and 6.7% year-to-date.

“The Luxury SUV segment also continues to strengthen, up 18.9% year-to-date.

Mazda had their best ever August because they did M-day a month earlier, no brainer there. I like Mazda but did anyone even think why that result happened...it's not hard to see. So they are either going to have a completely crap Sept because they don't have M-day or they figure the usual updates coming in Sept will sell themselves. I'm figuring the former with the way things are going. Its gotta sting that Hyundai have overtaken them now, they have been claiming the top fully imported company for a lot of years now.

Honda is heading into the toilet, no wonder, you can't make cares in Thailand and pretend they are still the same car. They aren't and they still charge like they are. Mazda were smart enough to try it and stop it when it failed and go back to Jap made cars except for the BT 50 who most people never realised was made there.

Ford seem to think making a new Territory in Diesel will help, lets ignore the fact that the Mondeo is our best selling car along with the Focus and we should have stuck with the plan of making them locally instead of the unreliable and poorly built Territory. Why are so many Australian made things built so well, but our cars are so crap, its like the workers don't give a crap about the car, and just want their paycheck....so now half of them don't have that anymore either...

I think it has a lot to do with mother companies being in the States. US-designed cars are so under-engineered!! It is difficult to built a good car if your parts bin is full of crap.Originally posted by woofy View PostHonda is heading into the toilet, no wonder, you can't make cares in Thailand and pretend they are still the same car....

Ok, having some downtime trying to catch up on some zzzz's thanks to my 3 week old daughter! So I thought I'd do a few calculations in my head ( I know it's concerning how some people chose to relax!) I know it's concerning how some people chose to relax!)

Im predicting that Skoda will outsell Peugeot, Renault & Volvo once the Fabia & Yeti have properly arrived here. That would move Skoda from 25th now to about 20th or 21st on the list.

 Here's my logic:

Firstly I calculated the superbs and octavia's share of their segments (large & medium cars respectively) based on the Vfacts figures for year to date sales to August.

 Octavia 968/48865 = 2%
 Superb 450/53346 = 0.8%

I then applied a conservative marketshare to the Fabia and Yeti's segments (light & compact suv)

 Fabia 90209 * 1% = 902
 Yeti 78991 * 1% = 790

I then added all these up and divided by 8 to get a monthly figure then by 12 to get a yearly figure

 total (968+450+902+790)/8 = 389

 Yearly = 4668

Given that I think the Superb is still growing it's marketshare and that any Roomster sales (??) are not included in the above then I think Skoda should be hitting the low 400's per month Over the next 6 months. That means a lot more Skodas on the road!

Should be interesting to see if sales live up to these predictions?!?!Last edited by Bezant; 24-09-2011, 01:48 PM.Skoda Superb Combi Elegance 118 TSI Black with Black Leather, Fiscon Bluetooth, MDI, Tinting from B Pillar

Anyone with even base industry knowledge would know the second half of the year is slower than the first. 1480 units to August puts then on track to do about the sane as last year considering end if last year brought Superb Wagon, 1.4tsi, 1.8tsi and RS option add ons and all with price restructuring.Originally posted by Frufru View Post250 Skodas in Aug 2011.

I can't see Fabia in a manual only variant (statistically removing 70% of your potential audience immediately) will be their volume seller at $22k on road. Not with the Swift coming in a GL for about $5k less than this.

I can't see how your comments stack up?!

Don't worry, very soon Skoda Aus will realize how unrealistically high the price is, so they'll drop the price by a few thousands or add more equipment. By then it probably will be the volume seller.Originally posted by RSwag View PostAnyone with even base industry knowledge would know the second half of the year is slower than the first. 1480 units to August puts then on track to do about the sane as last year considering end if last year brought Superb Wagon, 1.4tsi, 1.8tsi and RS option add ons and all with price restructuring.

But before the price drop and DSG, I don't see how they can sell the Fabia.

 Great September results for Skoda

Best month ever!! Leapfrogged Peugeot, Volvo and Renault, awesome. It is probably only temporary high point due to release of new models but trajectory is right on the target there. I do not think that they go over 3000 vehicles sold this year, but they may not be far off it.
