After I posted last night I had decided to go for the Octavia 118TSI (over the Jetta Highline 147TSI) fairly well optioned up - leather, f&r sensors, xenon lights etc - very similar to the Jetta. I was told there is a wait of approx 6 months for both models.

Then today I received a phone call today to tell me a Jetta with the specs I was after had been located and I could have it in 2 weeks - so I thought 2weeks for the Jetta vs 6 months for the Octavia mmm.

So, sorry to disappoint some of you Skoda-ites but I have defected for awhile. I would be interested to see what the new model looks like - you never know.

Does anyone want my name lol.
Just out of curiosity, what were the prices for the 2 options?

I quite like teh 118 that was used in the pref facelift, I'm guessing the same one is still used rather than the twin turbo setup slipping in now.
There are plenty of threads on VWWC & other forums where people are talking about their engine problems - they are hidden away anywhere.

You are correct, Skoda Octavia still has the 1.8L 118kw powerplant. It doesn't use the turbo/supercharged 1.4.

To the OP: I would have taken the 2 week wait as well. Congrats

I must have missed them. He reckoned the new engine in the current RS, GTi and it stablemates is so bad that they are expecting new versions to appear in this years models with new rings/pistons. Also that they are fully booked up for engine rebuilds for 6mths (Audi dealer in syd). I haven't seen anything that obvious around.

Do these issues extend to the 1.8L? I'd all but decided to go with a petrol Yeti, but if the diesel is more reliable........
Seriously, buying a new car is doing my head in.

The 1.8T in the Yeti has been around for ages, I'd have thought any reliability issues it had would have been eradicated but possibly not.

I have a 2007 build 1.8TSI M6. Uses 200ml of oil in 15,000km. Has averaged 6.8L/100km over the last 93,000km. It's had a Bluefin remap since2009. It's a wonderful, smooth, torquey little engine. Love it. Would buy again.

Run it in properly & use 98ron & you'll get more than the advertised 118kw.

without the xenon option on the Octavia, the Jetta was approx 2K more.

I was rear ended by a 4 wheel drive, I reckon he hit me at about 70-80 km/h. It shook me up a bit, some whiplash - ok now though.

I think the 1.8T in the Yeti is an EA888 derivative. So a relatively new engine.
