Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

How's your write up progressing? I am keen to do this on the weekend and would like to see your tutorial!

Can provide detailed pics of mine on request.
I just found this to be a problem that I cannot nut out....care to share a pic of what you did with the bulb holder??

Nope...don't do anything yet....I'll cut and solder the globe wires!!

Buggar!! No go.... got globe error on dash! Have reverted back to stock for now.

Seen somewhere there is a Xenon Headlight check box in the diagnostics(??) that may need checking to overcome the error?? I have a VAG Diagnostics cable and software from VAG Diagnostics in the UK on the way and will check when it arrives - hopefully this week....

yes there is, it MAY help with the error, but AFAIK all it does is move the CH/LH lights to the fogs instead of the headlights

I don't have a bulb out error, at all.

This may seem like an entirely stupid question, but... You did re-attach the cables the right way 'round, right??
I've done it before. Its embarrassing.

I'll post some pics tomorrow, its a little late now.

Nah...fair question to ask! All cables attached correctly AFAIK. The error could be die to my soldering job on the globe wires. I'll check when I get back home from bus trip later this week.

Though I do have another thought ....maybe it could be that my ballasts are AC not DCthus causing the error??

To tell the truth, I don't know why they have both AC and DC ballasts, as all vehicles (to my knowledge - it makes sense) run on DC.
              Do they actually turn on?

Apologies - I haven't been home since the 13th to take the pics and upload them. Just got back.

I ended up crimping some plugs on the actual globe wire and affixing/waterproofing with electrical tape.

                Nope... don't turn on!

I tried another pair of globes and used crimp connectors but they still didn't turn on!

Looks like I'll have to shop around for a new kit.....

install was easy! just put in some H7 HIDs.

i used the factory globe holder to hold the burner in the socket. ended up pushing the plugs through the square hole in the bracket. bent it slightly to accomodate for the slightly thicker mount in the burner. almost looks factory, except for the wires and the ballast on the side of the headlight unit lol

                    Sorry, Cranks.
I don't know what it could be.
I'm assuming Halogen bulbs still work?

Yep they still work.....I didn't have any trouble using this kit on my 2005 Subaru Liberty GT!

I have started shopping around for a new DC kit and will post back again once I have it and tried the install.

                        Bummer!!!

Well lads I have tried this again with a new HID Kit - see pics.

Still no luck! I have an VCDS cable and checked the Xenon headlights installed option but alas I still got the bulb warning light on the dash and consequently no headlights.

Anyone have any clues what could be the issue? Or is it my beastie is just plain stubborn!!

i used my old non-canbus version on my RS and they worked fine.

however before that i programmed to have the CH/LH lights to be the fogs, and all the turning convenience lights for the fogs too. what did you change in VCDS?

I can try that....care to share the exact coding for your changes??

All I changed was putting a tick box in the 'Xenon Headlights installed (with shutter)' option.
