      today overcomplicate things.

On off chance, what sort of offset/pcd etc does the octavia have?
I've been quoted $2200 for them from BWA Auto in Sydney which is way better than the first Melbourne quote I got.

I think this whole thread about wheels with noone yet mentioning suitable offsets and the octavia pcd is pretty funny.

        PCD is 5x112
With an offset of ET56, 7.5" wide rims will fit with about the smallest clearance you want between the suspension and the wheel rim (a few mm). A bit of room on the outside for wider though.... so for instance 8.5" rims with offset of ET45 should fit nicely.

oh now you've gone and confused the frack out of me ; ) .. cause I know bugger all about wheels.

All I know is that to get 19's, (I think) I should be shopping for 19x8.5, somewhere between 45 and 50 offset, 5x112, 57.1 bore, with 235/35 tyres.

Is 19x9 possible on the GTI/Octy setup .. and what about 225 rubber??? (ahh, so many questions ..)

(edit) .. found this pic that I'd posted earlier of 225/35 which to me looks extremely tempting. I still have bugger all idea about the offsets though (maybe I should get off my arse and google it!)

          • 19x8.5" with a ET45 offset is what I am running and have no issues at all. Any larger offset or width though there would definitely be rubbing, from memory there is something like 6mm clearance. As per offset calculator - going from a 18x7.5 ET51 to 19x8.5 ET45 means the wheels will extend outwards 19mm but also be closer to the strut by 7mm.

Todd, you can run 225/35R19 rubber (not sure on 19x9") but the only problem is the Load Rating. Basically every car has a load rating index that the tyres must satisfy, which for the Skoda Octavia & Golf GTI is 91Y. Now the problem is that 225/35R19 rubber has a load rating of 88 max and you cannot find any in that size to meet the 91Y requirement, hence why I decided to run 235/35R19's. The issue here though is that once the car is lowered many are finding that the wheels scrape on the body over bumps etc so that's why people run 225s and find it reduces the problem.....but your've got to decided whether or not you want to risk it with insurance since running a tyre that is under the load rating is deemed unroadworthy - i decided not to take the risk. That or don't run 19's - but they look hot

            • Dru - thanks for that good info.

Just to clear things up a bit - I just checked my offset and its not ET50 but ET56 - hence why my information wasnt matching with what you said just now.

Will edit my posts with correct info.

thanks heaps for the info Andrew, at this stage it looks like I'll aim for 19x8.5 ET45 and 235/35 91Y.

                • No worries. There is a guy on briskoda who is running the exact same setup as me (wheels specs wise) and is also running coilovers. To date he hasn't reported any issues and I believe his drop is 35mm....he has a thread about his v710s.

                  • Polarising point about to be made.... Has anybody thought about fitting the Detroits from the GTI onto an Occy? I'm possibly maybe about to buy an Occy, and I'm about ready for a change of rims on the GTI. Anybody half decent at Photoshop keen to give it a whirl?

I considered doing this ages ago but decided that the association of that style of wheel was too anchored to Golf GTI & on another VAg car would be a bit try-hard.

But if you have the wheels lying around, why not?
