  • Just had my RS wagon back to the dealer to sort the minor warranty niggles.

I had the rattle/squeaking noise on the left side of the dash. They said it was a loose bolt. It mostly occurred on hot days, so it's hard to know if it's been fixed, but it hasn't made a noise since.

Also had a minor problem with the MDI not always working. They said it hadn't been programmed properly. Seems to be working fine now.

Also had a strange problem of paint peeling off from the front bumper near the bottom of the radiator. It's behind the grill so only noticeable when the bonnet is up. They took photos and sent them to Skoda Aust, who've agreed it's a warranty item. Dealer will now organise a Skoda approved panel shop to repaint it.

So far I'm very happy with the dealer's response and service. A few minor niggles don't detract from the overall enjoyment of the car.

    • About a month ago I attempted to fix the bloody intermittent rattling on the passenger side dash and noticed a friggin screw was missing which also answered my question why the glove box was kinda loose on the door side and why you could push the dash trim beside the glove box up a little. Anyway, instead of wasting my time dropping it off at Skoda, i walked in, popped open the side cover off one of their RS's in service and showed them which screw was missing so they just gave me one so I can do it myself. Anyway, thought that would fix the rattling but its still there and gets annoying. When it doesn;t rattle, the car is whisper quite and I REALLY enjoy driving it. Anyone got a permanent fix yet?

      • Mine was more of a squeek, so yours sounds different. Only happens over very rough surfaces (common in western sydney). I re-silicone sprayed the plastic around the where the dash joins the body, the screws holding it on and also around the the air vent. Its just really hard to place, but its gone for now. Silicon spray doesn't last forever, so maybe next time I'll go medieval on it....

It might have already occurred to you, but if you are missing a screw and you have a rattle you might have just 'misplaced' the screw. I had a look at taking the glove box out, and while it looks straight forward, I just don't have screwdrivers capable of getting into the tiny gaps. (I have torq drivers, but I'd need an allen key shaped one I think).

I have just had the dash rattle fixed too. Bought the car in Nov 10 and it had been there since around December. Worse on hot days.

Apparently some mounting bolts behind the dash needed tightening. It will be interesting to see if they work loose again.

Also had to have an ABS wheel sensor replaced. When I picked the car up there was another guy picking his up with the same problem.

I have not seen anything else on this blog about faulty ABS sensors. Anyone else had this problem?

          • Hey guys,

Just thought I'd contribute to this thread.

My MY08 Octy vRS is up to 37000km now. So far only have had to deal with a broken left front speaker, replaced under warranty. Front right window is extremely squeaky - I think the seal is too tight, and it's an annoyance more than anything. Anyone else have this issue?

The Roomster has been more troublesome. Had the entire rear windshield replaced because the demister was broken at delivery. The aircond has been broken more than it's been working - I've been to the dealer at least 6 times for it (definitely not fun up here in Queensland in a glass roofed car)...

I must say the service at Brisbane Skoda is diabolically bad, whereas Bryan Byrt (just opened a couple of months) has been fantastic - the service manager Will takes time out to explain everything, and gives me a courtesy car no questions asked. He showed me where one of the air cond pipes had been bent and split cuz the other guys just kept shoving it in and re-gassing the system without fixing the fault. Brisbane Skoda meanwhile makes me angry all the time (no courtesy car because I didn't buy my car from them - and a couple of times I've arrived to pick up my car in late arvo and they haven't started working on it yet).

I get my cars serviced by Mike and the team at Prestige and Performance in Coorparoo - they handle all my family's VAG cars and are fantastic.

            My 2c!

            • Does anyone have a copy of what the Skoda warranty DOESN'T cover? I've had a heater hose replaced after 2 years (21,000kms) - $40 part and an HOUR labour to fit. Not happy. I've called Skoda/VW in Sydney (a number of times - each time they say they will call back, they don't. Wait a week and call back... you know the story!). Is this part not covered by warranty? Skoda/VW won't provide a copy of the warranty. Surely they should?

I've been a VW customer for 18 years... now with 4 VW's and 3 Octavia's. Almost due to replace 3 cars... thinking of going somewhere else....

              • A heater hose should be covered under warranty unless you have hacked it with a knife or something stupid.
There should be a warranty statement with your owners manual.

                • 1. Dual Mass Flywheel at 15,000km's. Causing vibration at low engine speed and idle (2 weeks off the road).

                  2. Drivers Side Window Motor - Window would not go up all the way up.

                  3. Poor audio quality on Skoda bluetooth kit - Software upgraded and still crap. I bought a dealer demo and didn't pay for it. Would not be happy if I paid the $750 for it. Don't think it is the same unit as they sell in Europe.

                  4. Intermittant Tailgate Open Warnings (On Hot Days when going over bumps) - Dealer changed tailgate lock, but didn't fix problem and reoccurred 8 months later when weather warmed up again. Out of warranty about 1 month by then and told I had to pay to fix problem after blaming reverse camera I installed (Well before the issue occured). Quoted 5 to 6 hours at $120/hr to fix. Fixed myself. Ended up being solder splashes on the the PCB of the CCM (Convenience Control Module) where the tailgate wiring plugged into the PCB. CCM located behind glove box.

The doors creaking is a common problem and I use "Gummi Pledge" on the door rubbers as recommended on a UK forum every 6 months and no noise.

I thought that repairs done at authorised dealers had a 12 months parts an labour warranty independent of the vehicle warranty.

                    • Had massive problems with AM reception, worse after rain. Dealer would not replace antenna base (well known leaking/corrosion problem on Octavias), because they are charged for the spare part and can't return it if it does not fix the problem. This went back and forth between me and the dealer until I had a day where Am reception suddenly "went good" for a while. Before then, dealer kept saying "AM on these radios is not great", yeah OK but I can't pick up major AM stations (ABC) 10km out of the city centre! Anyway eventually they replaced the antenna base, and all was fine, AM radio is now picking up stations outside of the inner suburbs. God, I hate having to push and push and argue to get obvious faults fixed!
