I couldn't agree more. The FL got rear armrest storage, why not cupholders!? O/S markets, you can get a bottle adapter as such to fit into the pull-out pocket under the rear airvents but I've not seen it here. Shame though, that's my only real criticism of the Octavia range.

Doing a bit of quick mental maths which is always a worry I estimate that running a Falcon with rear cup holders would cost me around $30 per week in additional fuel alone or $1500.00 per year. For that price I reckon I could get an auto upolsterer to build some holders into the rear armrest if I really wanted.

There are trade offs in other dept's - purchase price for the VRS is one and XR6 non turbo is around the "equivalentish" spec and would be cheaper to buy. They will happily run on bog standard petrol too.

I'm about to do a 4000k round trip to adelaide in the VRS, so I'm looking forward to comparing experiences with the XR6 turbo I had. I have a feeling the fuel economy will be the main win for the VRS - I'm not sure where the comfort will stand, the ride is a bit more firm - the falcon was on helluva a good mile eater. I suppose I'll know when I get out of the first 6 hour stint!

I'm not really being serious here.

I'm not being serious either - it's a real "oh well" thing. Cupholders are overall "meh" for me - although I do like the front door ones for longer trips!

Oh I thought the FL had cupholders in the rear armrest? It was weird the pre FL ones didn't I actually assumed it did until it was mentioned as a feature. Our 6 always had them there, so took it as being normal. I saw the bottle holder thing for the ashtray bit under the airvents in the Yeti the other day so assumed that was instead....now just reading above it seems not even that can do it. Lucky for me that at the moment its just kids in the back and their car seats have cupholders already....

Maybe if they did a Superb Scout? I'm in a bit of a quandary for my next car which will need to fit 6' boys in the back but I can still drive on rougher roads.....

4x4 v6 yes.. but jacked up and bashplates and high profile tyres.. not sure VAG would want a cheaper competitor to the Audi Allroad.

I'd think so too, but Skoda make the Scout, which is a better car than the A4 Allroad (which they don't sell here, it's only the A6 Allroad).

I agree entirely that VAG are unlikely to make the Superb Scout, but that doesn't help me at all, and could even push me back into the hands of Subaru in a couple of years. $110k+ for an A6 Allroad, if they're still making it then, is just over the odds.

What is the ground clearance on the Superb? I just remember the mess of the underfloor on my Golf, and don't think I should head back there.....

Standard, 139 is what the brochure says.. so i think thats 13.9cm same as the standard Octavia from memory
Drops to 119 with the sports suspension kit which i think from memory is the same as the RS Octavia

That's easy. Pitch it against the XC70 Volvo.

Maybe 139cm would work - although I like the AWD too. Scraped the bottom of the Scout on the way to Wombeyan Caves a couple of months ago.....
