So dont compromise on tyres!.

Your whole opinion of your car can be influenced by the 8 inches of tyre touching the road!!

If you save a few hundred, but have poor performing tyres, you will regret it every time you drive, and cant do anything about it for a few years....

If price is an issue, buy them on 24 months interest free and pay it off each month before the 24 months is up. then you will have premium tyres, without forking out a wad of cash.

Hi Tigger – interest free may work for you, but I personally would be very careful with it….
The longevity of the tyre needs to be considered so a new set is not required before the old is payed off – for instance I am doing 35k km a year and only got 25k km out of the OEMs……
There is also the risk to consider of tyre "failure"– about every second puncture I get destroys the tyre – uncanny luck of the nail/screw/whatever going thru the sidewall……… While this is not the average for forum readers I am sure (and there may be insurance at added cost) I have at least 1 flat in the family every year (2 on the RS in 13 months…).

To add to the mix, although it’s a very personal thing, in over 30 years the only tyres I have ever gone back and purchased a second set of are Michelins, Yokohamas and Pirelli….. (and there are a number of brands I have vowed never to go near again…)

I am running the GY F1A2's and have put 15k on them so far and wearing well. The noticeable difference I had between the original Dunlops and the GY was a lot better feel in the steering/handling ( but a bit hard to compare a worn tyre to a new tyre). If you can get the GY F1A2's for $260 fitted, I go for it, that's cheaper then what i got them for and I didn't pay retail. I can't compare to PS3's etc, but I am happy with my purchase.

I got PS3 for $332.5 fitted from Bob Jane in Adelaide, the car feels like new again.

...and of course the new ceramic pads with the new discs after the tyres were fitted yesterday, to keep these wheels nice and clean, no more weekly wheels wash and dirty driveway after the wash.

Don't know about the Skoda (mine is delayed another 3 months), but replacement tyres in Canberra is easy. Just go to the Tuggeranong Tyrepower guy. Great service and reasonable pricing. I swapped the Pilot Sports on my Saab 93 to Falkens (top range) and they work with the chassis really well. Good $ too.
If upsizing, you should also drop a size on the sidewall rating (45->40, eg) as it keeps the correct rolling diameter.
Agree with you about the Khumo's though. Got nasty quickly.

They are ATE Ceramic pads and ATE discs. Unfortunatelly there aren't ATE Ceramic for rear, so I have to wait when they become available.
Yes, I use wood or rubber block to protect the sill seam. I don't like when they bent and get scratched.

Thanks for that. I just had a look online, and found an ATE distributor (HSY), but retailers seem thin on the ground. I'll give the distributor a call.

The aluminium based paint coating on the disc in your photo had me wondering what it was. If the ceramic pads are half as good as claimed then not only will they perform well, but I'll spend a lot less time cleaning wheels, and my driveway.

I'm the same with wanting to protect the sill seams. I tried the hockey puck idea, and the sill seam was still too deep for it.

They are a drift tyre.

How do they compare with something like a Michelin PSS or PS3 for wear, noise, ride, handling, dry & wet performance?

I'm not sure if they are used for drift or not, they are the control tyre for the Suzuki Cup Sprint series and that's why I use them, they are great in the wet, I don't feel I have to be cautious on them, stiff side walls gives out a little noise but that's what I have an exhaust for and as for tyre life, I'm on my 2nd set in 18 months, so by rights I'll get almost 4 years out of $1000 dollars worth of top notch tyres , sounds good to me, and at the end of the day if I destroy one on or off the track, I won't get upset.

How many km do you do per year?

If you are on your 2nd set in 18months then 18+18 = 36 months = 3 years. $200/tyre x 4 =800 x 2 = $1600

If they work for you, that's great but I've bought cheap tyres before & experienced buyer remorse for several years afterwards. Some of them have been so bad that it made you drive like a nob just to wear them out quicker.

edit: Moot point anyway as they don't appear to come in any sizes that are OEM on any of the Octavias.

edit again: Tread depth when new is 4.8mm compared to 8mm on most tyres. I usually bin my tyres at 3mm (minimum legal is 1.5mm). tread wear rating is 200. Doesn't sound like a value proposition for me.

Thanks for that. I saw DunlopRS's pic as well before it was removed. Both placards only in English, same part number, and showing a min speed rating and a min load index.

My placard in Czech, Russian, German, and English must have missed getting changed. Nothing from the dealer yet.

The planets are back in alignment, the earth is not about to be hit by a meteorite the size of Canada, and I have a new tyre placard the same as Mysticality's.

To get this simple matter right has been a PITA. Based on a previous good experience I took the car to the same dealer that did the injector pipe recall mod. I don't know if there have been a lot of staff changes there, but in dealing with them to get this placard sorted I've already commented that it took 5 days just to get a call back to confirm that the placard was the wrong one.

So, I get the car their well before the 8AM booking time, do the reception formalities, and head to the lounge for a coffee. In my mind it should only take a few minutes to peel a sticker off, and put another one on, but workshop procedures come into play, so I waited patiently .... until 9AM. I went down to see what was going on, and saw my car sitting there with the fuel flap open. The new sticker was on it. I asked if the car was ready to go, and after no comment other than to get me to sign the job sheet I was handed the keys.
I didn't sweat it, and just thought it a good thing that I decided to go down to see what was happening.

What was odd was when at 11:38AM I got a phone call informing that my car was ready for collection.

It was Brad, if you look at it sideways you can see it's a smiley face, and I'm guessing it was fitted by the apprentice as there seems to be some "blemishes" on that smiley face as well . I reckon that takes dedication to his art..... ha ha ha
