      • G'day All,

Has anybody upgraded their spare tyre to an 18inch? Does it fit all right where the spare is stored now?

We are moving to the country soon and I am not too keen to use a space saver limited at 80km/hr if the family gets stuck on the side of the road.

        Cheers

u don't have a spacer saver tyre in the octavia. u have a full size spare.
the 16" spare tyre has the same rolling diameter as the 18" neptunes.
i don't understand why it has an 80km/h restriction on it?!?!?

but to answer ur question - yes u can fit an 18" in there. u just have to keep in mind that it will sit/protrude a little higher as the 18" has a wider ('taller' when lying flat) profile (225mm) compared to the 16" (195mm).

Thanks for the info. I don't know much about tyres; hence when I looked at it and saw it was 16inch I assumed it was a space saver and therefore 80km/hr restriction.

If anybody is interested was quoted $1054 for 4 x Goodyear f1 Asymmetric 2 225/40/18 from tirerack delivered. I couldn't find this size in Australia. Just have to toss up whether to go for it now.

            • You can get that tire size in Australia, I got them here ( currently have them fitted ). Not bad if you are getting freight for a touch over $300, assuming you're getting the 92Y rated tyre??

Yea 92Y, tyres $170 each and freight about $370. Delivery 5-7 days. I contacted Goodyear Australia for a quote as they had that size listed on their website. They advised me they had none available in Australia and could not tell me if they were getting anymore in, so I had to look elsewhere.

                • I'm up to 41k on my Continentals, they've really lasted well but it is time to go some newbies before we do lots of holiday Ks.

Had a few quotes for fitted, aligned balanced
                  - Continentals Sport Contact 2/3s ~$350 - $429
                  - P-Zero Nero $275
                  - Pilot Sport 3's $320-$390
                  - Falken ZE912 - $268
                  - Yokahama V551 $332
(and a whole bunch of cheaper tyres but I think the above list are the only ones on my radar)

I'm actually not too concerned about being at the performance end as its becoming my wife's car shortly and we will be doing a lot of country K's(and she's dutifully scratched the front bar in celebration). So for mine, I need some reliable rubber that will last a long time and be quiet as possible over course surfaces.

I'm leaning towards the Yokahama's because I have a pretty good relationship with Bob Jane in Penrith and they reckon they are the quietest of that bunch. However, I don't mind the Contis that I currently have, so they might win out. Any votes to contrary? The Falkens seem to have a pretty good rep online and are a bit tempting at $200+ cheaper - has anyone run those?

i've hit 42k now with my ContiSport2 and still going strong
i'll most like stich them when it comes time to changing them.
                    or maybe the CS3?

I wouldn't say mine are going strong, but I could probably get another 5k out of them before they become legally iffy. But we're headed to some tropical regions at Christmas, driving at night and I'd rather not risk it if there are some big storms. They are also getting rather noisy as they get older.

CSC2 is superceded now. CSC3, CSC5P or CEC DW if you wish to stick with Continental

                        • Can anyone advise what tyre pressure I should be running?
I've got a current Skoda RS petrol wagon with the 18 inch wheels with conti tyres.
I'm driving from Sydney to Adelaide this weekend on my own and was wondering what pressure I should set them to.
                          Thanks in advance.

                          • It's in the fuel flap but does the RS stil have the stupid 30psi recomendation?

If it was just me & a few bags - 36psi all round.
If the family is on board & a full luggage compartment - 40psi all round

i've been putting 38psi in all 4 from day 1.
done almost 43,000 kms now. will easily reach 45k before i have to start thinking of options.

                              • Wow - the interwebs FTW, I was just thinking about adjusting mine again.

I bought some new tyres on Monday (P-Zero Neros), and the workshop put 42PSI in the front and 38 in the back. It actually didn't feel too bad, but I adjusted them to be 40PSI all round because I prefer it a bit firmer and have always run at that, but the RS actually felt nicer the way they had it, so my conclusion is the workshop knows more than me I don't know if I want 42 in the fronts, but I might put the back down to 38 and see if that feels better.
