Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Feed the loom in from behind the climate control panel (then behind the guages and down to the bluetooth unit). There's quite a bit of room in there, but none behind the radio.

Thanks for the tip. My current BT module is in between the glovebox and the cage for the head unit, so will be good to have an OEM-type install instead. it doesn't rattle or anything, just not the cleanest install. Plus they used an external mic which they mounted on the A pillar, I am hoping that the carsystems kit will include a bridge connection between the mic in the headliner and BT module, if not I'll just do it myself.

I don't know how is your current BT kit connected to the wiring, but the one from the carsystems will connect into the vehicle quadlock connector. I found when installing it in RS Octy that there is not enough space behind the unit and the additional 2quadlock connector blocks just will not allow the unit to slide fully back home. Routing the wiring with the 2quadlock connectors block joined on the passenger side between the glowbox and centerconsolle, keeping the bulky connection on the left side rather than behind the unit, worked for me. The rest of the wiring goes just under the dashboard instruments; the cavity there is big enough and allows the wiring to be easily fed through.

Yeah my current BT has a quadlock harness as well. Found the same thing with space behind the HU, connectors and extra cable are tucked in to the left of the HU cage and fed through the gap there.

As I wasn't worried about losing voice control, I re-pinned a couple of the wires in the loom and sent the microphone direct to the BT unit. Success! I'm sure with more creative wiring, I could have retained the voice control also, but as I said it wasn't a concern.
Got my 730L this week and installed it yesterday.

Concur with the difficulty in pushing the wiring harness back around the HU cage, I cut a little bit out as well which helped immensly in this regard.

As for the voice control, this is what I've learned:
You already mentioned that the harness supplied from carsystems.pl is not wired up to just plug n play with an existing RNS510 w OEM mic in headliner.

To clarify for anyone else, you need to take pins 1 and 7 from the ORIGINAL wiring loom and plug them into the RNS510 end of the wiring harness which came with the bluetooth module. This involves unplugging the small 12pin connector from quadlock connector and releasing the pins from the connector with a jeweler's screwdriver.

So you now have pins 1 and 7 from the car's wiring loom connected to pins 1 and 7 of the RNS510, which is MIC IN + and MIC IN -. Then MIC OUT + and MIC OUT - connect to the pair of wires with a white connector on it that goes to the bluetooth unit.

Now you have 2 choices when it comes to voice control.
              1. Turn OFF voice activation in address 77 telephone. This allows the RNS510 to handle all voice control including navigation destination entry, bluetooth dialling etc. Preferred option I would think for most.
              2. Turn ON voice activation in address 77 telephone. This will DISABLE voice control of all functions except the bluetooth module. I think that maybe it may have a few more minor functions over the RNS510's bluetooth voice capability but I don't know specifics.

Anyway hope this helps anyone else considering the install. I would rate it a 7 out of 10 for retrofit difficulty where RNS510 installation is a 5 out of 10 and RVC install is a 9 out of 10. No soldering required or anything but you do need to understand the pinout diagrams and dismantle connectors etc. Plus you need to hack at the HU cage and run the cable under the carpet.

i bought a bt wiring harness from bluewagen. plug'n'play it was.
no need to rewire any of the pins.
                voice control functions as normal.
                bt unit uses rns510's mic.
all i had to code was telephone.

                i'm still umm'ing & arr'ing bout getting rvc.
an ecu tune is more of a priority for me now.
