Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • I haven't sent any logs to BMS as I'm still waiting for the lambda plugs. I've got a road lined up for testing lol

      • RS230 update if you don't follow my time line.

JB4 logs sent to BMS, without the air/fuel ratio wire tap, said it was a bit rich, but to be expected I guess as it doesn't know.

Got video in motion enabled and ordered a wireless kit.

Lambda plugs arrived so made a jump loom for AFR, installed wireless kit.

Did another set of logs and sent to BMS with AFR. AFR is now closer to the 14s which is about right.

I've also just ordered a DTE pedal box module (ex Germany/197.23 Euro) and should have Friday or early next week.

Booked for dyno runs on Wednesday as well
        Bring on the track day!

        • Sorry for delay.

vRS TSI front brakes are now 340mm (Mk7 Golf R) - there are some, very rare but some, 17" wheels that fit on the Golf R. These are the ones you should be looking for.
16" steel wheel was supplied for the spare on the Mk2 vRS because of the 312mm front brakes shared with the Golf GTI - but this is no longer an option.
VW does not make a 5x112 17" steel wheel.

          • I did the JB1 module and used the custom map to have a progressive boost curve - maxing out at +4psi between 4000 and 5000rpm.

Another good mod was the OBDEleven module. Besides convenience mods such as enabling Traffic and auto-close on the boot I also reduced the XDS, reduced torque steer compensation, changed the traction control to allow fully "Off" and reduced the rear brake on turn-in. The reducing torque steer compensation definitely brought some more feel to the steering and made it a nicer car in my opinion.

            • Install of the JB1 was easy APART from removing the bottom tray and getting to that plug. Install prob takes 30mins in reality, maybe more on your first install if you are anal about making sure everything looks perfect and securing any loose bits with strategic zip ties. I then drove it on stock map +4.8psi coming on HARD between 2500 and 3000rpm. It is just too much torque for the FWD setup, there would have been over 400Nm in that sweet spot. It makes the car just too much mid-range and not enough top end. So now I use the custom curve and have a little bit of boost down low, coming in more progressively then filling in the region from 4000 to 5000 so it extends the torque curve a little higher and also fattens it up a bit. I took the JB1 off for service and the thing felt SO MUCH SLOWER !!

So it is definitely worth it but I would lower the boost from what the JB1 comes with standard. It is kind of fun using the mid-range torque when merging or on the highway. Nobody expect a station wagon to pull so hard onto highways or into gaps.

I'm partway through configuring map 6 at the moment, but the struggle is getting the 4th gear pulls to send to George for his input and fine tuning

Inside was full of new & used parts for all sorts of euro cars - spoke to the tuner guy who is going to get back to me with options on down pipes & intakes etc
They have a few tuning options but have a special on revo this month $1124 with a dyno run - normally $1495 + 395 dyno
stage 2 tune is an additional $395 much like APR (but they offer a free tune if you fit their down pipe - well over 2k)

Euro Tune on the Gold Coast APR Stage one $1795.00, Stage two $395.00

V A Garage on the Gold Coast offered Blue fin @ $1250 + $120 upgrade to stage 2

Yet to call in & see VA Garage in Cleveland - another member here rated them highly & they seem pretty well priced
Also want to check Bayside Performance as they do a heap of vag cars & possibly Harding Performance in Coorparoo (they just did a car in Motor Mag Tuner shoot out)

Looks like I will need to investigate the air box further as most of the stage tunes even in stage one will max out the flow rate of 300bhp
Phoned Euro Car Upgrades for a price for a Revo tune stage 1 for my VW Tiguan highline 162, $1795!!!!

                            • hey all, got a power run just to check things over with the JB4 custom map06 a few weeks ago. Here's the results (stock vs map06) pretty stoked, its an animal now. The midrange torque is awesome, hence the need for an uprated clutch lol.
