  • Soundaktor Unplug

    Hi all,
Question regarding Soundaktor. I find it really distracting and since I don't have the option to turn it down in my individual settings and don't own an OBD11/VCDS, I am considering unplugging it.

Just wondering if this causes any issues/errors?

Many seem to have done it but just wanted to ask straight up.

Any help would be great thanks.

I unplugged the Soundaktor on my friends Mk7 Golf R years ago (around 2014 when he first got it), long before OBD11/Carista were around. No errors and no issues. Its located near the windscreen wipers under the plastic cowling at the base of the windscreen.

Thanks. Looks like I'm going engine bay diving. Can't wait to get rid of the drone.

      Have a good week.

Its a circular shaped black plastic thingy - about the size of a hockey puck. It just has 1x electronic plug going to it.

@pineapple_162: The answer to your question is YES, physically unplugging the "hockey-puck" connector will generate an error in fault memory (the "hockey-puck" is a fully registered module on the car's CAN network - therefore its operation is constantly monitored)

However, the fault is NOT registered in the dashboard as an error message and it doesn't affect any other aspect of the car - so unless you connect a diagnostic device (like VCDS/OBD11), you won't know about the error.

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help. Have unplugged the puck and done the airbox mod. Car still runs so I don't seem to have made any critical errors.
