Skoda 2.0T making strange sound

Hi,

Just got the car back today after a water pump failure. Very sensitive to new noises it might make after a conversation with the mechanic on can tension failures in this engine.

Driving with windows down I accelerated to about 60k/h no noise. When I stop (foot completely of the pedal), I can hear a noise from the engine that sounds like a chain. Specifically like a chain on a bike would sound like if you started peddling backwards.

Should I be concerned in the short term? I'm seeing the mechanic again Thursday and might call tomorrow to get his thoughts on drive risk.

Any ideas?

Additional testing while idle in the car. It seems more related to the engine rpm when decelerating. No noise accelerating, but when the car is slowing down the noise is audible from 3000rpm, until it hits idle rpm.

Possible that the timing belt has been over-tensioned. The noise is the tensioner at the end of its travel.

Huh ! It has a chain, unless its a TDI.
