E-TAGS!!! Where the hell do you put one in the Octavia RS???

Back when we had our MKII RS the wife would drive over the Gateway in Brissie everyday (while I went the opposite down the Logan tollway!) with the tag in the middle top compartment of the dashboard. Both old and new style and never had a drama with it not working. Doesn't help you, but brought back memories of our RS.. which I handed down to my folks and they love it!

I miss that centre compartment, keep going to put things in there. And yes the etag for Melb also worked sitting in there.

In NSW you dont have to pay $40 deposit for each new tag.

I applied two tags and received them without paying any deposit, for free. Also I did not have to hand in the old one to get the new ones. I think you can report lost to get the tag ID wipe in their system.

Where did you get your etags? Roads and Maritime Services NSW charge a security deposit unless it is a replacement for one you have already paid the security deposit on. Sure, you don't have to hand your old one in if you have 'lost it' but what good is it to anyone because you can't use it!

Mine is still the original $40 deposit. I have 3 tags now including the oroginal one. There is no $120 deposit.

I did not report lost, the battery is gone in the original tag so I ordered anther two tags. There was no requirement to hand in the old one or pay deposit for each new tags.

I stand corrected on additional security deposit for 2nd and 3rd etags it is $40 security deposit for the first Tag and deposit waived for 2nd and 3rd. Thanks for the correction there!

I dont even put the etags in my car - the numberplate is registered with them and the cameras always just pick up the numberplate and i never have any issues. They just debit my etag account each time.

I only go to Sydney every month or two so i dont want to have that ugly thing stuck to my windscreen all the time.

there is 55 cents VID FEE everytime if they don't detect your tag

My son, trying to help his old man out, put my tag in for me exactly the 'wrong' way you described when I got my car 5 years ago. Looks like I'll have to keep my car forever!
